To put it nicely, my kitchen in Mumbai is cluttered. Obviously the wise solution would be to get rid of those appliances and crockery which rarely see light of day. However much to my “flatmates’” dismay, i.e. my mom & grandmother, I’ve taken it upon myself to contribute to this evergrowing collection. Sometimes it’s with little things like cups, other times it’s with slightly bigger pieces of equipment such as my new favorite toy:
The Benriner Spiralizer
This lightweight ‘gadget’ can turn any firm fruit or vegetable (e.g. raw papaya/zucchini) into spaghetti-style strands that are basically pretty to look at it and fun to eat. To say I was amazed with the results is an understatement….plus the machine itself is a joy to use, sort of like the Play Doh Fun Factory for adults ;)!
It comes with various serrated blades, so the dimension of the strands can be changed. I’m sure if I practiced and tried really hard, I would perhaps be able to mimic the results with a knife but what can I say a) I’m a marketer’s dream and b) efficiency, people, efficiency! Jokes aside, I don’t think even Jamie Oliver could match the uniformity of the ribbons formed with an ordinary knife.
This ‘toy’ would be a great solution for those who don’t enjoy vegetables (cough *weirdos* cough 😀 ). The change in texture may work a treat and also boosts its versatility to take up different sauces and dressings. There are a million ways/recipes I want to experiment with! So far I’ve been eating ribbons in my salad (packed lunches just got a heck of a lot more exciting) and zucchini ‘spaghetti’ tossed in a cream-free creamy pesto. Was the last bit an oxymoron? You’ll just have to wait and see, but trust me it’s a good one :)!

I LOVE it! We’re both veggie spaghetti themed today, huh? I’ve had zucchini spaghetti and it’s delicious; so I think I know what kitchen toy I shall be looking for next 😉
It’s such a fun tool! I love my carb but it’s also an excellent noodle replacement in stir fries…how’s that for endorsement 😉
Can’t wait to use mine this weekend. How do you cook the zucchini once u make it in spirals? Also any chance to have few recipes for sauces posted? Need some of your inspiration am in a major food rut at the moment!
I eat the zucchini raw after spiralising it! Will be posting the pesto recipe very soon! Watch this space 🙂

i WANT THAT. I sit for hours peeling my zucchini to make my zucchini pasta ( ok maybe not hours) and that looks so easy and SO pretty!! I just bought the cutest little blender today!
Whoa- that thing looks pretty sweet! I’m not a huge kitchen person AT ALL – so I just appreciate really pretty dishes and glasses. Hahah super simple.
