Healthy morning routine

Hey guys- long time! Although I’m no longer posting as much on the blog, I’m still sharing plenty of wellness tips & tricks on Instagram (follow me–> here). I also do a weekly series Every Monday called ‘Info Nuggets with K Weigh’. These are insta stories of me dropping knowledge bombs on various topics such as fat loss, getting back into shape post-pregnancy, self-love, snacking, acne and so much more.

My most recent nugget focused on the importance of creating an epic morning routine.  Based on past experience, I can truly say that how we start our day essentially sets the foundation of how the rest of your day is going to pan out.  If done right, our habits in the morning can help create massive success during the day.  Because we lose momentum when we sleep, it’s our responsibility to build it back up every single morning in order to optimise our health- physically, mentally, emotionally & spiritually.  With that being said, here are some ways to get the most out of your AM:

1) Start with the night before & ensure you sleep at a reasonable hour.  Sleeping enough is almost like a VIP pass to more energy, improved cognition, optimised fat loss and SO much more.  While the ideal number of hours is so subjective, my personal sweet spot is around 7 ½ hours.

2) Rehydrate with a big glass of water.  As our bodies tend to be in an acidic state when we wake up, trade your tea & coffee for an alkalising cocktail that your blood pH levels will thank you for.  I alternate between hot water & lemon juice or hot water with apple cider vinegar.

3) Centre yourself mentally: Even if it’s just for a few minutes, setting aside time to focus on your thoughts is a great way to clear out any feelings of doubts, stress & other toxic thoughts.  This act of mindfulness can also help you align yourself with your goals, desires and the kind of person you want to be.  A few great ways to do this include praying, meditating, journaling, repeating affirmations and/or reading some inspiring text.

4) Move your body to help get the blood flowing & endorphins pumping through your blood stream.  Personally I find myself most energised at the start of the day and that feeling of accomplishment tends to have a ripple effect on the rest of my day.

5) Break the fast with a meal that is well-balanced, filling and full of nutrients.  Along with helping me function better during the day, a nutritious breakfast tends to set the tone of how the rest of my day pans out.  To eliminate the need to make an additional choice in the morning, I usually opt for a protein smoothie that I know is tasty, packed with nutrients, calorie-controlled and filling.

And the one habit I really try to avoid in the morning:

  • Checking social media, at least until after I’ve engaged in some activity pertaining to mindfulness.  Brain & memory coach Jim Kwik explained it best:

“So many of us ‘give up our sovereignty and power first thing in the morning’ by checking our phones for emails and social media.”  In doing so, we begin firefighting & reacting to others and essentially create all these toxic thoughts in our mind.

Hope these tips helped guys!
