I think I need an intervention: I seem to have gone loco over coco (nut) a.k.a. coconut crazy. A quick glimpse into my apartment and you will find:
- A bag of unsweetened coconut flakes in the pantry
- Coconut milk in the fridge
- Coconut oil in the kitchen
- A bottle of coconut-flavored moisturizer in my shower
And a the latest addition to this unintentional coconut shrine:
- Various Chi Coconut products
A few weeks ago, a Chi representative generously sent me a box of goodies including:
- 100% Pure Coconut Water
- 100% Pure Coconut Water & Mango
- 100% Pure Coconut Water & Tropical Fruits
- 100% Pure Coconut Water & Pineapple
- 100% Natural Chocolate Coconut Milk
- 100% Natural Espresso Coconut Milk
- 100% Raw Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
As with every other review I have posted, I am going to be 100% honest with my opinions. Let’s start with the good:
Despite containing no dairy, both milk varieties taste INCREDIBLE. The chocolate flavor tastes straight up like a liquid Bounty chocolate bar whereas the espresso coconut milk reminded me of a frappucino. Starbucks, watch your back! With about 150 calories per 330ml serving, both flavors contain all-natural ingredients:
100% Natural Chocolate Coconut Milk: Water, Coconut Cream, A Dash of Coconut Sugar, Fat Reduced Cocoa Powder, Inulin (Chicory Fibre as a Prebiotic), Natural Flavouring
100% Natural Espresso Coconut Milk: Water, Coconut Cream, A Dash of Coconut Sugar, Inulin (chicory fibre to aid with digestion), Coffee Powder, Natural Flavouring
As it’s so readily available in Bombay, coconut water has become my staple drink, especially for rehydrating post-workouts. With a natural balance of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium, coconut water is a healthier electrolyte drink alternative to those chemical-filled, sweetened energy drinks on the market. While nothing beats having fresh coconut waters delivered to your doorstep daily as in Mumbai, products like Chi certainly make hydration both healthy & convenient.
As much as I wanted to love Chi coconut water, I couldn’t handle more than a couple of sips. Even though none of the flavors contain any added sugars, additives, preservatives or chemicals, they each tasted far too sweet & synthetic for my liking. However rather than it being a problem with the product, I think it’s more to do with spoiled taste buds. After months of drinking fresh coconut water straight out of coconuts in Mumbai, it’s hard to enjoy tetra-packed varieties. Hashtag brown girl problems.
I haven’t tried out the coconut oil yet, but I can’t see it lasting long. Between sautéing veggies, turning it into a DIY facial moisturizer and using it as a granola binder, the options are endless.
Once again, a huge thanks to Chi for their generosity!
Have you tried Chi products? If so what are you thoughts?
In what form do you most enjoy coconut?
I don’t recall seeing Chi here – but espresso coconut milk I sure could use in my life! Love your honest review lady! And I understand totally bout packed vs fresh coconut water – growing up, I had ready access to fresh coconut water and the packaged ones don’t come close! There is an South Asian store that I shop at that has Fresh coconuts at the entrance with a chap with a long knife who will lop the top off so fresh coconut water can be enjoyed while shopping – oh yeah!
I love coconut oil – I use it in place of butter! So curious to hear about your “DIY facial moisturize using Chi coconut oil!
From what I’ve read, you can actually just apply the coconut oil straight onto your face as is!
I love the espresso Chi! When I was a devout Paleo follower, I lived on that stuff. I used to buy 20+ cartons at a time haha
I have never had a fresh coconut before (I know, the shame!) but I imagine it would be hard to go back to the packaged stuff. Maybe this afternoon I will have a fresh coconut water 😉
Go on…be a tourist & purchase one on Oxford Street 😉
So I’ve never actually tried coconut water. Maybe I should get on that? Although I’m kind of set on having my first coconut water experience being straight from the coconut, which is a little hard to get around here 😉
Just one more reason for you to come to India 😀
So obsessed with coconut! Lol between coconut milk, flakes, yogurt and water I think I’m as loco for coco as you are! I usually drink harmless harvest here.. It’s just raw coconut water, no other ingredients 🙂 not as good as drinking it directly from the coconut itself, but as close as I can get!
Lots of coconut water to be had when you’re back in summer 😀
I’m loco for coco too, especially coconut oil! I use it for everything – cooking AND beauty. If I had to pick my favorite use, it would be using coconut oil as a nighttime lip “treatment.” Love how soft it makes my lips!
Ohh I must try it on my lips, especially as they dry up so quickly in London!
OMG, I LOVE everything coconut. It is ridiculous how quick I go through my jars of coconut butter. AND the coconut milk, I use for cooking at almost every meal.
So…chocolate coconut milk?? HEAVEN!!!
Believe it or not, I still haven’t tried coconut butter..that needs to change ASAP!
I’ve never even heard of this brand before!
My favourite coconut product is Trader Joe’s coconut chips – they are so addictive!
Mmmm I love coconut chips!
That chocolate coconut milk sounds like something I seriously need in my life! Thank you for the honest review. I always love learning about new products!
I think my favorite coconut product is coconut butter. But I also love coconut water, coconut milk, coconut oil, coconut ice cream… I’m not too picky when it comes to coconut!
Mmm I forgot about coconut ice cream- love it!!
I’ve never tried these products, but I think I’d really enjoy the Coconut water. I love infused water so this would be a good fit for me. Also, I’m working on a new granola flavor which involves coconut. It’s going to be Coconut Lime Pineapple.
Oooh now this granola recipe sounds like a tropical explosion in my mouth…YUM!
I have some coconut milk freebies I have to get through (like that’s a bag thing :P) thanks to a race I participated in recently 😉
The espresso flavor sounds intriguing!!
Freebies= enough reason to sign up for a race 😉
