Monsoon faves

Heyyyy guys! How was your weekend…other than the fact that it likely flew by ;)? As I mentioned last week, the monsoon rains in Mumbai are currently in full swing. Although the city gets awfully messy, my attitude towards the season has changed completely this year.  It used to bother me so much & I’d plan my trips to make sure I was out of the city by the time the rain hit hard.  Sure it’s still muggy and the city gets messy but life goes on.

As plenty of people rely on the rain as a source of their livelihood, it’s much needed.    Considering a huge chunk of the population don’t even have proper shelter, I am extremely grateful to have a car to travel in & also access to a warm shower if I get drenched.  I won’t deny that I do love the coziness that the season inevitably brings.    To keep up with the #PositiveVibes, I wanted to share a few of my monsoon faves:

  • While ice cream is certainly a comfort food of mine, there’s something equally comforting about breaking the fast with steamy bowls of oatmeal while watching it downpour outside. Although I’m usually all about the toppings, oatmeal is the exception- the simpler the better! Lately I’ve been enjoying the honey & peanut butter combo…and sometimes some fresh fruit when I wake up on the wild side.

  • Forget rain, monsoons should be deemed ‘Mosquito Season’. I seem to spend a good chunk of my day swatting those little buggers. Aside from a good repellant, I’ve found that candles help keep them at bay. I’m currently burning this Cire Trudon Rose Poivree candle and the floral scent is just dreamy.

  • Japanese has always topped my list of favourite cuisines but Thai is slowly matching its rank.  As much as I love Pad Thai, lately I’ve been enjoying homemade green curry. Lezzzz be honest, anything involving coconut milk has got to be delicious.  I know curries can be super laborious but my version is super snappy and can be suited to both a vegan and/or paleo diet so let me know if you guys want me to put up the recipe.

  • Tell me I’m not the only one who finds being at home so much more inviting when it’s pouring outside.  I’m using this time to catch up on TV shows and my last tick-off was The CatchI finished the first season in a matter of a few days so it’s safe to say that I do recommend it.  Any idea when season 2 comes out?
  • When it’s chilly and rainy, I’d be lying if I said that the appeal of hot chocolate didn’t multiply by a thousand.  Here’s a lazy girl hack for anyone avoiding dairy: Heat up a serving of chocolate almond milk.  It’s deliciously creamy and contains about 90 calories & 12g of sugar.  To put it into perspective, a tall skinny hot chocolate at Starbucks without whipped cream contains about 210 calories & 32 grams of sugar- NUTS!

This isn’t particularly monsoon related but I saw this on Instagram and absolutely loved it:

  1. Yes please to the homemade green curry recipe 🙂
My fav comfort food is unfortunately ice-cream, but I’m getting so much better at seeking healthier alternatives such as a bowl of yoghurt and banana coins topped with chia seeds and almonds. And avocado blended with cacao powder is also awesome. In the past I could eat a tub of ice-cream within a few sittings, but now am proud to say that the tub in the freezer has been languishing there for some months already.

    1. Oh wow Kiran- congrats on being so proactive about making healthier choices. I still need to try out avocado chocolate mousse- I’ve only heard good things!!!

  2. Of course we want that recipe!

I love being inside when it’s raining. It’s so cozy and relaxing! And YES to warm oats in the morning. My Banana-Eggy-Oats will always win the game – since years now my favorite breakfast!!

  3. LOVE this post and the skinny hot chocolate hack! I’ve been having a thing for turmeric lattes too, ever since we tried it at MAE a few months back… xx

    1. Haha it still makes me laugh that haldi ka doodh has become the rage in the UK/US!! Aside from Mae Deli, have you seen it being sold anywhere else?
