Favorites from the first week of March

Happy Friday, guys!  Hope you have some fun planned over the next couple of days.  Before we get this weekend started, here are some of my favorites from the week:

  • Apple slices dipped in peanut butter: If the “Apple a day…” motto holds any truth, I won’t be seeing a doctor any time soon.  This has been my go-to snack over the past week and I can’t see that changing any time soon! Despite fancy snack concoctions & various energy bars on the market, there’s something about this simple combo that just cannot be beat.  Actually I lie- bananas with peanut butter are right up there too ;)!

  • Cinema trips: I played catch-up at the cinema last weekend & saw Zero Dark 30 and Silver Linings Playbook.  Although I didn’t love ZD30, I thought the plot of Silver Linings was excellent…and between Jennifer Lawrence & Bradley Cooper, all that eye candy didn’t hurt either!  On a completely different note, I think this might be the first time that I’ve ever seen 3 of the Oscar nominees….could it be a sign that my taste in movies has matured into appreciating more than just chick flicks ;)?

  • Coconut water: Although India still needs to get with the program where “health foods” like kombucha, almond milk and Greek yogurt are concerned, we are one step ahead of the game with coconut water a.k.a. naryal pani.  It’s my current drink of choice after workouts and while it may not rack in the protein, those electrolytes count for something…and plus it’s so refreshing!  And just for the record- drinking it straight out of the coconut sure beats those Vita Coco Tetra Packs!

  • Swimming: I went for a swim a few days ago for the first time in MONTHS!  While rocking a swimming cap is hardly attractive and time for washing/blow drying post-swim needs to be allocated, it’s worth that extra bit of effort.  Especially as I always feel so relaxed afterwards, I want to try and incorporate it into my workout routine more.  I’ll just have to schedule swims around my hair-washing schedule…and  don’t act like you don’t have one too :)!

What’s one of your favorites from the week?

  1. I love the simple combo of an apple with nut butter too. It never gets old!

I haven’t been swimming in ages! It’s so hard to motivate myself to get in the pool when it’s so cold outside. 😛 That aside, I really enjoy it.

My favourites from this week are homemade lentil burgers, sushi with my best friend, and the latest Vegetarian Times magazine!

  2. Umm, I really want a coconut. I don’t think I’ve ever even tried coconut water, but I just really want to drink from one :-p

Apples and peanut butter is such a tasty classic. But I think banana and pb wins out for me – that may just be because the last couple of apples I’ve bought have been kinda tasteless…boo out of season fruit!

  3. fun 1st week of March 🙂 Thanks for the wonderful b-day wish. I had a great one!!! I need to bring swimming back into my life although I never seem to keep my hair dry in spite of swimming caps, I probably need to figure that issue first 🙂 Have a great weekend.

    1. My hair doesn’t stay dry in swimming caps either- I think it’s more to do with keeping hair from falling into the pull ha!

  4. PB + apples is my one my favorite snacks ever! YUM! And I can’t wait to see SLP…been waiting for weeks – hopefully this weekend! And I love that you’re trying to incorporate swimming into your workouts. I’ve heard it’s one of the best ways to work your body. I wish I could do it more reguarly! Have a great weekend, K!!

  5. LOL! I have to train one of my clients around her hair washing schedule. We seriously stand there and she books in her diary what days she’s going to wash my hair, and when she can see me as a result. She’s training with another (male) trainer while I’m out of action and he’s like WTF. He doesn’t understand these girl issues 😉

    1. HAHAH that client sure has guts- I don’t think I’d be able to admit it to a personal trainer…that too a male one haha!

  6. My favorites from the week our my beach hangouts. We had a snowstorm in the NY area. Anyway, I hate vita coco, it looks so dirty and tastes weird, but I love fresh coconut water. It’s so refreshing. Would love it after a workout. 🙂

  7. Apples and pb truly is hard to beat… a simple snack that just tastes magical 🙂 Good for you for getting more into swimming! It’s great for your body- joints, tendons, bones and such, plus you are getting a great workout!

  8. I couldn’t agree with you more about bananas and peanut butter; it’s a snack that never lets me down! Add a little honey and/or a few chocolate chips, and it becomes even more blissful. You won’t believe this, but I can’t remember the last time I paired apples with peanut butter. It was a snack my mom served me many times as a child, but for some reason, it hasn’t crossed my mind in years! Thank you for the reminder!

I’m glad to hear you enjoyed Silver Lining’s Playbook–I thought Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper played their eccentric characters so well (and of course provided great eye candy, too!) I haven’t seen ZD30, but have heard it’s intense.

Oh Khushboo, I’m so so jealous of your fresh coconut water and outdoor swims! It’s still freezing here! It’s time for me to move to a warm place…like India. 🙂 Happy weekend! xoxo

    1. I’ve been loving peanut butter & banana slices on toast over this past week but adding chocolate chips to the mix is a fabulous idea ;)!

  9. Love all your favourites! Especially apple slices and peanut butter and coconut water straight from the coconut! I miss that so much – you’re so lucky to have it on your doorstep! That pool looks fabulous – i totally understand the hair washing dilema, might as well kill two birds with one stone 😉

  10. When I was younger, I didn’t appreciate the straight-from-the-coconut coconut water my parents and relatives raved about, but now I actually miss not being able to appreciate it more, haha! Love how you have a coconut delicately placed next to your laptop :P!

Swimming can be a fun (and challenging) workout, but the whole showering/drying stuff can be a hinderance for me. Guess that’s why I haven’t gone in swimming in…well…more than a year? I can’t even remember :P!

    1. Haha I’m pretty sure that coconut water photo gave my mom palpitations- she always fears liquids falling on my laptop!

  11. Peanut butter plus any fruit or veggie always tops even the best granola/protein/health bars! Currently in love with almond butter on…well, anything that stands still long enough for me to put almond butter on it. Um, how jealous am I allowed to be of your water-from-a-coconut? I have dreams of someday living somewhere where fresh fruit is readily available…Or maybe of just taking a vacation to India 😉

    1. Agreed about peanut (or almond) butter tasting good on almost anything! As you’re eating meat now, you gotta try a peanut butter & rotisserie chicken sandwich…even better with a few drops of soy sauce :)!
