What up buttercup? At the end of last year, I had posted some of what I hoped to tick off in 2012. Ideally I should have reviewed my goals at the middle of the year (i.e. way back in June) but lo & behold, procrastination got the best of me. So before it’s time to set new goals, I better get down to it:
- Go with the flow: I think so! Especially after my trip to London, let’s just say I’ve started to embrace the “Y.O.L.O.” motto (You Only Live Once).
- Give up diet drinks: Check mate! After my last sip of Diet Coke on December 31st, I went cold turkey & haven’t caved once. Thinking back to how much I used to drink makes me cringe: at home, with a restaurant meal, mixed with vodka, for a 4pm caffeine rush, the list goes on. The only few times I’ve been tempted is on the plane, but apple juice mixed with soda does the trick.
- Read at least 5 books in 2012: After reading Privileges by Jonathan Dee, Princess by Jean Sasson, Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Drop Dead Healthy by A.J. Jacobs, Fifty Shades of Grey &Fifty Shades Darker by E.L. James , I have more than fulfilled my year’s quota!
- Continue blogging 3-4 times a week: You can be the judge of that :).
- Get the ball rolling towards a nutrition-related career: This is still a work in progress, but it will happen.
- Continue strength training at least twice a week: Just call me an over-achiever with this one! I did Body for Life from January to May which incorporated weight training 3 times a week. Since then, I’ve cranked it up a notch to 4 times a week. As a result, I’ve been able to cross off another goal of mine: complete 10 continuous ‘big girl’ press ups…i.e. no knees on the ground 😉
- Improve my running pace to an 8.45 min/mile: Not as yet, but I haven’t actively been working on it either. As much as I love to run, I haven’t been feelin’ it much lately, so I’m a-okay if this goal takes longer than planned.
- Visit China & The Golden Temple in Amristar: After visiting my sister and brother in law in Guangzhou earlier this year, I’m halfway there. As for the Golden Temple, my mom & I are planning to go sometime in October or November. Hopefully my sister will be joining us (Shyamla, hint hint 😉).
How are your 2012 goals/resolutions panning out?
Great post, K! You have so much to be proud of! Love it! And what are your plans for a career in nutrition? Back to school?!
I need to revisit my goals too. I think a mid-year check up is a great idea. 🙂
I actually qualified as a nutrition specialist last year…I’m hoping to finally put it into practice by the end of this year! Looking forward to reading about your mid-year check up :)!
Can’t wait to hear more about your plans then!!!
I had to google “golden temple,” I wanted to see where you’re going! Gold plating, marble and gemstones? You better post pictures, what a fantastic and historical place. And congrats on all the progress you’ve made so far!
It’s amazing right! I first saw it in a movie (go figure) and immediately added it to my list of “Places to See.” Especially as it’s in India, I might as well make the most of living so nearby!
You go girl! WAY to tackle some great goals.
Thanks, Alex!
It sounds like this year has been quite the success so far! I can’t wait to see how the rest of 2012 pans out for you, you should be so proud of all the accomplishments you’ve made!! 😀
Thanks, Alexandra…hopefully I can keep up the momentum for the rest of 2012 :)!
Great year so far! =) Based on your recommendation, I am reading (and LOVING) “Drop Dead Healthy” right now!
So glad you’re enjoying it..he has a hilarious style of writing, right!
It’s great that you’re revisiting your resolutions! Congrats on being diet drink-free :D!
Thanks 🙂
What a great idea to reevaluate the goals you set out to accomplish at the beginning of the year..I don’t even know what mine were! Oops! And you just inspired me to do more strength training!
Trust me- if I was able to start strength training more, anyone can…I was the ultimate cardio junkie!!
Congrats on the Diet Coke! I’m jealous… I’m doing better, but not quite that good. I’m scared to look back at my goals.. lol.
Better = some progress, so well done to you too 🙂
I remember giving up my habitual diet soda was one of the hardest things in the world. I loved diet coke
Same here…but like you said, it was more out of than anything!
Okay so giving up diet coke is very commendable! Seriously, I am in awe… I don’t drink it too much, but when I do, I LOVE it and can’t really imagine stopping it, but yeah, I know it’s not the best
Fantastic job so far, you care clearly on the right track m’dear!
As bad as Diet Coke is, I’m sure you could be doing a lot worse 🙂
Your running goal pace is an awesome goal, I would be happy to be able to maintain a 10min mile for all of 10 miles!! The further I run, the slower I go to ensure I will make the whole run!! HA.
Yay for giving up diet drinks, my favorite goal on the list! Also the career goal!
Your approach to running is totally on the right “track” – either work on increasing speed or distance…too much, too soon is a recipe for disaster!
I don’t think I’ve covered any of the places I’ve wanted to visit for 2012… oh well. I guess sometimes time and circumstances come in the way of things. I told myself I’d blog 15 times a month, and that ain’t happening either. 🙁 Good post. I’m gonna go read all your London posts now. 🙂 I had to cancel my trip unfortunately, but I may push it off to another 3 weeks, let’s see.
I hope you are able to make it to London…better late than never 🙂
great progress! i’d like to make it anywhere in asia… maybe in 2013!
India is in Asia..just sayiiiin’ ;)!
Love all of your goals! Especially love that you have travel as a goal! I actually didn’t make resolutions this year. I didn’t want pressure this year!
I know what you mean…although everything seemed to fall into place this year without seeming like I was actively tackling them!
It’s always really good setting goals for yourself. It pushes you to reach them! I saw that you qualified as a nutrition specialist! Good stuff! What exactly do you want to do with that? I am a health coach and certified trainer! Feel free to pick my brain- as I work with nutrition and health all day with clients and my team of health coaches! Keep up the good work!
Thanks SO much for your comment..and I am most definitely going to be sending you an email to pick your brains. I’m in that limbo stage where I have the knowledge yet not sure how exactly I want to project it!
Do it!! I have never been so happy and inspired in this career. It’s amazing and look forward to hearing from you!
