Five Favorites For Friday…

by Khushboo on June 22, 2012

…and now try and say that 5 times fast ;) !  I’ve spent about 10 minutes trying to think of a way to open up this post and I’ve got zilch.  So rather than make small talk, let’s get right down to it:

1) Suzette:  Although I hadn’t been to this crêperie in quite a few months, I seem to have made up for it over this past week: I’ve eaten there 3 times in less than 7 days!  Made from organic buckwheat flour, every crepe on the menu sounds better than the next.  My current favorite is the Pays (grilled chicken, chevre goat cheese & caramelized onions ) with a soy café frappé (glorified terminology for an iced coffee).

2) Drop Dead Healthy:  A.J. Jacobs chronicles his 2+ yearlong series of personal experiments, with which he aims to become “the healthiest man in the world”.   In addition to the actual content, Jacobs’ conversational style of writing has me hooked.  Between wearing noise cancelling headphones around his home and soaking all his produce in a solution of water, hydrogen peroxide and vinegar before eating it, the author goes beyond just tackling his diet and fitness levels to reach his goal.  Although I’m only halfway through, I have no doubt that the remainder of the book will be as entertaining, if not more.

3) Clif Mojo Bars:  When it comes to “healthy” snack bars, I’ve tried a fair few till date.  Some are a hit whereas others are taste like, pardon my French, ass.  Although it’s quite a bold statement to make, I think Cliff Mojo bars might be my new favorite, specifically the “White Chocolate & Macadamia Nut” flavor.  With at least 8 grams of protein and 200 or less cals per bar, these bars are an ideal on-the-go snack.

4) Portable Table: I have a terrible habit of doing everything on my bed.  Whether I’m watching TV, using my laptop, or eating my dinner, I am probably lying down.  I know I am not doing my digestion or posture any favors but comfort first ;) !  Check out my mom’s “solution” to my habit:

….Peace out radiation and crumbs!

5) 10K Run for Tathapi: I can’t believe the time has already come! As of 2:30 pm Mumbai time, I will be starting this global run to raise funds. It’s part of a fundraising initiative to help the NGO Tathapi kick-start their dream for a Health Resource Centre for Women in India.  I am psyched to say the least.  Rather than a go in with a time goal, I just want to have fun with it and finish strong.  It’s not too late to donate so please help us make this dream possible.  Donations can be made here and we would be extremely grateful!

Have a great weekend!

That crepe place sounds amazing! I can’t even remember the last time I had a crepe. And I don’t think I’ve ever even had a savoury crepe before… that needs to change!

Also I’ve been really wanting to read that book! It’s written in a sort of satirical tone right?

Yup although he’s very fair in his approach in that he tries so many regimes despite his beliefs about them.

As much as I prefer sweet over savoury in general, i actually prefer savoury crepes.

That book sounds great!! I’ve seen it at… I think Barnes & Noble? But the description on the back didn’t do it any favors. Your description, on the other hand – THAT intrigues me! <3

That portable table is so cute! Recent things that I’ve been loving are:
- Episodes of Masterchef Australia Season 4
- Tennis season!
- Decluttering my home (and life)

You must be SO pumped for Wimbledon to start! And agreed about decluttering- it’s so cathartic!

Haha! I love the portable table!
It reminds me of the little table they have in Japan :)
I try not to do things on my bed, because I know if I let it happen few times, my husband won’t be able to get me out of the bed! lol

The Bandra Suzette is a far cry from what you described, given their food is good but their service is terrible in Bandra- let me enlighten you:

So, it was four of us girls and we had first called for a watermelon mint and peach & grape smozzies (season for peaches). The drinks came at the same time and the watermelon mint juice was brownish in colour and tasted watery and sour, as if it had gone bad. The peach and grape was extraordinarily sour and tasted of seeds and nothingness. We called the waiter and returned it- which apparently was an insult to the owners because two men walked out looking rather offended. They told us that they tasted the drink and they liked it- (Excuse me, I didn;t realize you were serving yourself and that you were the customers) There was a lot of back and forth basically a French ‘pompous’ man trying to teach us what smoothies/ juices taste like. Then the other friend of mine and me decided to try the Iced tea, one of the owners came out and said I’m not sure if you will like it but try a little bit in a glass first and decide, which was very nice of him. The second man came out again and told us that we would not like the Iced tea as it was very French and luxurious in the rudest possible tone- (Excuse me- did not know you owned our taste buds)
After all of this, he still came back and was very condescending telling us that we shouldn’t be mad and that he is not making us pay for it. Firstly if you want to run a business in India, please do not insult Indians by telling us “its french and luxurious and you won’t like it, just because you fail to make a basic smoothie and watermelon juice” and secondly if you want to run a restaurant anywhere in the world-LEARN HOSPITALITY first!! Even thought this was a bad experience after so many good ones- I will not encourage people to go in here, simply because the owners do not know how to treat their customers. And if the owners are reading this, yes you guys are very racists and hopefully sooner then never you guys learn that you are in India, learn to treat US with respect. Antonia and her team need a lesson or two on hospitality!
