If I had to recommend any one restaurant to someone visiting Mumbai, it would undoubtedly be The Table. Tucked away in Colaba, The Table has consistently delivered with their food, both in terms of quality and innovation. As taken from their website, The Table offers a unique cooking style with global accents and nuances. The menu, comprised of small and large plates, snacks and sides, is intended for sharing and to encourage a lively social atmosphere. After ages I dined there last week with fellow blogger Ayushi from The Foodie Diaries. As always, every dish was on point. Especially as Ayushi is a foodie blogger based between London and Mumbai, we instantly connected over so much beyond food and blogging. When she moved the flower vase closer to one of the dishes for the sake of enhancing the photo she was about to take, I knew it was the start of an amazing friendship. I’m sure any blogger will agree that it’s SO refreshing to not be the only person wanting to photograph a meal ;)!
As Ayushi is vegetarian, I decided to go down that route for the night given their irresistible-sounding selection of vegetarian dishes . First off, the epic Kale Salad with Iranian Dates, Toasted Pistachios, Lemon-Parmesan Dressing, Garlic Croutons
I don’t usally love dates but in this salad, the sweetness helps tie all the flavors together. Because it’s almost criminal to not order Avocado Toast when it’s listed on a menu, how could we not order their version with House-Made Ricotta, Crushed Chili, Sweet Pepper & Toasted Sourdough
The Miso-Glazed Eggplant with Spring Onion, Sesame Yogurt, Sesame Crumble is a favourite of both of ours so ordering that was a no-brainer. Unfortunately that went unpictured.
If the food alone isn’t amazing enough at The Table, the service takes it to the next level. The restaurant’s earlier menu used to include an exceptional Puy Lentil Salad with Apple & Dijon Vinaigrette. Unfortunately it’s no longer an option…much to our dismay! A simple request to our waiter if they could make it for and moments later, the chef sent over a complimentary bowl of plant-based deliciousness
And finally, we ordered a plate of their new-to-me Roasted Brocolli Tacos with Refried Beans, Whipped Feta, Crispy Shallots…without the tortillas because we wanted to save room for dessert:
And now for the best course of any meal: dessert! I know I said I’m not a big fan of chocolate-based desserts, but The Table’s Chocolate Budino With Cocoa-Walnut Crumble & Earl Grey Ice Cream is an exception:
A few bites into it and the chef sent over a complimentary plate of their latest addition to the dessert menu: Japanese Cheesecake with Black Sesame Ice Cream:
I’ve tried sesame ice cream in the past and couldn’t hack it. Chef Alex Sanchez’s version has changed my opinion.
Ridiculously delicious food + great chat= the perfect evening…am I right of am I right? In case you do eat non-veg, I can highly recommend a few of the following dishes at The Table:
- Roasted Grouper in Japanaese Aromatics
- Spiced Lamb Mini Burgers
- Yellowfin Tuna Tataki with Avocado
- Provencal Lamb Ragout with Pappardelle Pasta
- Shrimp Dumplings
- Grilled Calamari Salad
Cheers to 2016 being the year of moderation, not deprivation!
What’s the best meal/dessert you’ve eaten recently?
What’s your favorite restaurant?
Ok. It’s bedtime here and I’m drooling. I never thought Kale Salad could sound so appealing! I’d still choose that cheesecake first though!
Haha believe it or not, I actually prefer the kale salad over the cheesecake…not because I’m nuts but because it’s really THAT delicious ;)!
That dessert would change my opinion too. What a fantastic restaurant and how nice of the chef to send a complimentary dish.
I agree- good service goes a long way!
K! That looks and sounds delicious. Every time I visit India I’m blown away by how far the restaurant industry has come. 🙂
Hope you come visit us soon- I promise the food will not disappoint ;)!
This looks exactly like my type of meal! I love small plates restaurants with awesome vegetarian dishes (although I eat meat, I always love seeing how chefs get creative with vegetables and I tend to prefer those dishes).
The best meal I’ve eaten recently was a funghi pizza at an upscale pizzeria on Friday. Although I had a bite of John’s pizza with 3 cheeses & prosciutto on it, and I think his was even better!
Oh wow those pizzas sound nothing short of AMAZING- mushrooms are almost a MUST when I’m eating pizza!
Oh wow – not only is the food at the table simply delightful, but the service seems pretty amazing too! So nice that they made a dish that’s no longer on the menu for y’all!
And Khushboo – THAT chocolate dessert looks amazing! Glad you got to enjoy this with a fellow food blogger after your own heart.
There’s something special about becoming friends with bloggers, you included Shashi :)!
What an incredible time we had! From our photo session to the love of lentils and broccoli tacos sans tortilla to those extra scoops of vanilla ice cream… it’s like you were reading ma mind! Great food, great mood and the best company – here’s to many many more lovely evenings like this 🙂 xxx
Oh heeey LEFT BRAIN! Can’t wait for our upcoming dates – roll on Rustoms ;)!
I would shovel all of that in my face. Especially avocado toast with homemade ricotta. I’ve been meaning to try to make my own actually… maybe this week.
Best thing lately… the Kobe sushi roll I had a couple night ago. I posted a pic on my blog, but it’s was a crazy good combo of wagyu, crab, and truffle aioli.
Oooh please do post the ricotta recipe if it turns out well! And that sushi roll sounds ridic- love the idea of adding wage!
