Foodie Friday

After my last post on the key to happiness, I thought I’d roll with something more light-hearted and food-based today.  Thanks for the survey tag, Dixya…I really appreciate it 🙂 :

1) What are the three fave things in your fridge/freezer right now?

Feta, rye bread, Lindt 70% Dark Chocolate

2) What’s the one thing you always have on hand?

Eggs

3) What’s one thing you’d never have?

Beef in any form.  As much as I love it, cooking it at home probably wouldn’t go down well with my mom or grandmother 😉

4) If you had an unlimited supply of anything, what would that be?

Peanut butter…especially when I’m bringing jars back from London or Dubai, that’s valuable luggage space being used up.

5) What’s your go-to market and what do you get there?

On a daily basis, we stock up on fruits & veggies at Colaba Market or Sahakari Bhandar.  Otherwise Crawford Market is a goldmine for finding random imported products as well as ripe avocadoes ;).  For foods like cheese or breads, the quality in the deli & bakery sections of restaurants like Indigo Deli & Le Pain Quotidien are much better.

6) What ingredient are you currently loving?

I’m currently kinda addicted to grilled sweet potatoes with cinnamon….mmm!

7) What’s your favorite thing to whip up at home?

Applesauce, baby…but you knew that!

8) Any songs you like cooking to?

I put my iPhone on shuffle so some days that could be a bit of Jay-Z, Marvin Gaye, Bollywood, *N’Sync…it all works!

9) What are the best items to have on hand for a quick and easy dinner?

Brinner (breakfast for dinner) seems to be happening more often than not over here.  When time is short, you can’t beat the convenience of whipping up some eggs & sautéing some broccoli and/or zucchini while toasting up a couple of slices of bread.  It’s funny how the quick & simple meals tend to taste best.

10) What are your favorite kind of leftovers?

Pizza, pasta, nasi goreng, roast chicken, to name a few.  Sometimes leftovers taste better than the first time round because the flavors have gotten a chance to settle in and get well-acquainted.

11) Fill in the blank: If I’m cooking to impress, I make….

Depending who the person in question is, but I’d probably roll with salmon.  Even though it’s one of the easiest things to make, it always looks & tastes fancier than the amount of cooking skill/time required.  If I’m cooking for a vegetarian, I make a mean Mediterranean quinoa dish.

12) What’s your condiment of choice?

I’ll give you 3: Balsamic vinegar, hummus and Ketchup (Heinz preferably)

13) What’s the strangest thing in your fridge at the moment?

How many of you have a coconut lying in your fridge which is ready to be sliced open & drunk?

14) When a midnight snack attack strikes, what’s the plan?

Almonds…and I speak from experience 😉

Have a great weekend!

What’s your condiment of choice?

What’s the strangest thing in your fridge?

    1. I don’t think I’ve ever tried blueberry jam- I usually go for strawberry or raspberry! That will be changing soon :)!

  1. Love, love, LOVE foodie surveys! How else would I know that you want a lifetime supply of peanut butter, and that you have a whole coconut in your fridge? 😉

For condiments, I’m going to have to go with ketchup. I often joke that I have ketchup with a side of whatever it is that I’m eating, but I just can’t get enough of that tomato-y goodness! It makes everything taste better. As for the strangest thing in my fridge… hmm. Nothing all that interesting, unfortunately 🙁 It’s all pretty basic stuff.

    Happy Friday, love!

    1. Hahah please DO fill this in sometime soon :)! And I’m glad you share my love for Ketchup…it works way beyond fries!

  2. I love this survey, and *miiiiggght* have to steal it. 😉 Can I come over and cook with you? Because I think we’d have a blast rocking out to N’Sync and Bollywood tunes. When I’m preparing a meal on my own, I always crank up the music; it totally enhances the experience.

Eggs are always in my fridge, too, and if they aren’t, I’m likely experiencing an anxiety attack. Kidding, but I eat them in some form every single day without fail. I got a good laugh out of the fact that you fill your suitcase with nut butter jars, as I often do the same! I always pack a jar of peanut butter when I travel, just so that I’m never without it. 😉

Condiment(s) of choice: guacamole, salsa, and mustard.
Strangest thing in my fridge: hrmm…it’s not strange, but in the HLB world it might be. Mayonnaise! I actually love it, and feel as though it’s very wrongly demonized. Nothing beats egg salad with mayo. Greek yogurt just doesn’t taste the same!

Happy Friday, dear friend! Hugs! <3

    1. Please do steal this….and come cook with me :)! I can’t believe I forgot about salsa..it might even beat Ketchup for me ;)! And between you and me, I get anxious when my fridge is down to 2 eggs :D!

    1. Gah just thinking about those damn officers at LAX who hijacked (and probably went to town) with that $20 bottle of Nuttzo still makes me mad! 😉

  3. must-have condiments would be ketchup. I do have a bottle of balsamic vinegar, bought it on a whim, don’t quite know where to use it… any suggestions?
and try a little cheddar with walnut as a snack – it’s super.

    1. I need to give sriacha another shot…I didn’t love it when I tried it but everyone seems to be all over it :)!

  4. Ooh love learning more about you- I do the same thing with my iPhone 🙂 so onto the important questions- I’m a bit odd but my favourite condiment is ume vinegar (it’s Japanese) I adore it and it calms my sour tooth well! Strangest thing in my fridge would be Organic pigeon (its more common in Italy) xo Sophia

      1. Hmm… It’s actually even nicer if done correctly! My Nonna makes a pasta sauce from it- she cooks them in tomato napolitana sauce and then shreds the meat up into it. It’s also lovely in a rich sticky soy sauce marinade with cucumber and peking duck accompaniments- in fact it probably tastes more like lean duck (although I don’t like duck all that much) it has a more “full” taste than chicken or turkey- I’m not doing to well at describing it sorry it’s harder for me sometimes in English! I hope this description helps in some way lol 🙂 Xo Sophia

        1. If anything, i think you did a fab job describing pigeon…and your description makes me all the more inclined to try out it :)!

  5. Favorite condiment of choice would have to be Frank’s Red Hot Sauce… OMG.. I’m in love with that stuff, I put it on everything or anything bland. Strangest thing in my fridge, hmmm… nothing strange, maybe almonds and walnuts… i refrigerate my nuts.

  6. That pizza crust looks interestingly awesome! I’m used to seeing crust that’s more doughy, but this looks lighter and crispier :P!

    1. As much as I love doughy crusts, these crispy ones are equally delicious…although a couple of slices alone don’t cut it ;)!

  7. Jealous of the chocolate in your fridge!!! Condiment of choice is ranch dressing, it is hard to get in Australia. Strangest thing profiteroles!

  8. I must immediately answer your first question… KETCHUP for sure 🙂 I agree with the salmon looking impressive! The fish along side a grain/starch of some sort and brightly colored veggies looks just so fancy. And it’s pretty much guaranteed tasty
Brinner has been my thing for the past several WEEKS… I seem to be craving sweet stuff at the end of the day more than savory. I do have plenty of both throughout the day though, weird! But whatever, listening to my cravings and I have yet to be disappointed
I would like to have an unlimited supply of both greek yogurt and cottage cheese. I truly love both of those foods and eat both of them every.single.day. My favorite cottage cheese though (breakstone 4%) is of course the most expensive kind in my grocery store… ugh . So having it always on stock for free would be great!
Have a nice rest of your weekend 🙂

  9. Haha cooking to N’Sync – I love it! I actually never listen to music when I cook but now I really want to start doing that. I think it would end up turning into a cooking/dance party!

My favourite condiments are hummus, ketchup and guacamole! I’ve been on such a guac kick lately because I keep on making Mexican food, and you absolutely cannot have Mexican food without guac! 😉

  10. Ketchupppp, always and forever 😀 And yes! It has to be Heinz–or Trader Joe’s, they make a decent one too. No other options, haha. And I’m totally with you on breakfast-for-dinner when you want quick and easy. Eggs, you can’t go wrong with them (and I may or may not have a baked omelet waiting on me for when I get home from work…)
