A yum weekend

Hey guys!  Hope you all had a great weekend.  Mine was the perfect mix of relaxation, productivity & friends.  There were also a couple of great workouts and meals involved.  With reference to the latter, those meals were so yum that I can’t help but share:

1) Dinner on Saturday: Ever since I tried beef in December, I finally understand the satisfaction meat-eaters get from digging into a good burger.  Especially given the beef regulations in India, it’s rare (pun very much intended ;)) to find a decent burger here. One of my favorite restaurants in Mumbai Table finally put an end to my 2-month long craving:

Table

Medium done, on a wholewheat bun and topped with sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions…eaten with a knife & fork because I’m classy like that ;).  Of course each bite was doused in equal amounts of ketchup and mustard.  Paired with a glass of my favorite Rosé (Mateus) & good conversation, it was definitely a great evening!

And on the other end of the spectrum:

2) Sunday lunch: Aside from quality burgers, I have a thing for salad bars & fro yo joints with extensive topping choices.  As it has become really hot in Mumbai again, all I wanted for lunch yesterday was a salad.  I went to town looking through my fridge and ended up assembling this monster:

Lettuce, arugula, carrots, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, grilled peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, leftover rotisserie chicken, chickpeas, feta, basil, almonds & strawberries…all topped with balsamic vinaigrette.  It was worth making such a high-maintenance salad because the different flavors & textures satisfied every possible craving. If salads are rabbit food, I want to be born a rabbit in my next life :).

What’s your favorite burger/salad topping?

What’s the best thing you ate all weekend?

  1. your sunday lunch is epic!!

With being sick, I was seriously just SO happy to have my taste buds back and actually really ENJOY everything I ate this weekend – ended up being lots of seafood. I love my shrimps and lobsters!

    1. Nothing like having no taste for a few days to make you appreciate something as basic as being able to taste :)!

  2. Mmm that burger sounds so good with the sauteed mushrooms and caramelized onions on top! I’m boring with my burgers and just like ketchup, mustard, red onion, lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese. 😛 But I’m checking out a new burger place next weekend where they have tons of crazy topping combinations, so I’m excited to try out some awesome toppings!

    1. Some would say it’s boring, I’d say your combo is classic :)! If this burger place has avocado, you HAVE to to get some on your burger- so good!

  3. That salad looks amazing!!! Seriously sooo good! I didn’t eat anything too spectacular this weekend, except I’m obsessed with hummus at the moment and I ate lots of that!

    1. I’m always so pleasantly surprised at how well cauliflower crust pizza tastes! Was it your first time making it?

  4. Mmm…cannot go wrong with a good burger! About a year and a half ago I had an elk burger with caramelized onions, brie, and cooked pear slices. It was seriously incredible.

I literally don’t think you could have fit another topping on that salad. It looks delicious!

    1. An elk burger sound delicious enough but those toppings take must’ve taken it to a whole new level!! Yum!

  5. Mmm, all food should be topped with sauteed mushrooms and caramelized onions! Okay, so maybe not froyo…although caramelized onions on froyo? I’d be willing to at least try it.

    1. Hahahah yuuuck although I commend your willingness to give the caramelised onion/fro yo combo a shot- braver woman than I! 🙂

    1. Haha it’s funny how I went 24 years without the urge to try a real burger yet now 2 months without it seems like an eternity!! :)!

  6. Is finding a good burger in Mumbai really that hard? You should open a burger restaurant! Kind of like In-N-Out or 5 Guys that serves delicious burgers and their business just exploded!

    1. Haha given my lack of burger-making skills & limited knowledge, I will leave it to the experts for now ;)!

  7. I don’t eat meat anymore but I still remember how great In-n-Out and Johnny Rocket burgers are. If you make it to the USA anytime soon you’ll have to try them!

  8. OH MY. Yum is right! A really good hamburger is the secret key to my heart, however few people know this because I rarely order them at restaurants, and I’m far from a grill master at home. 😉 However, when I spot a good combination on a menu (hello sauteed mushrooms and caramelized onions!), it’s hard to say no. Another favorite: guacamole + cheddar + bacon. So indulgent, but insanely delicious. 😀

And then there’s the salad! Greens combined with feta, fruit, nuts and chicken is a always a winner in my book. Have you ever tried drizzling a little truffle oil on top? Pretty amazing! xoxo <3

    1. Ohh guacamole on burgers in SO good…even better than Ketchup with says a lot :)! Love truffle oil on salads – thanks for reminding me to replace my bottle!

  9. The last time I ate a beef burger was in California at in n out. They are amazing. Favorite burger topping are pickles and cheddar cheese and grilled onions. I’m a pig. Best thing I ate was Mexican food all weekend. Will write more about it.

    1. Authentic Mexican food must have been out of this world…and enough reason for me to want to visit the place soon :)!

  10. This may sound weird coming from a vegan, but I love that you ate beef..I’m still loving that! HA. That burger does look good, but the best thing I ate this weekend was a VEGAN burger! HA!

    1. Hahah your enthusiasm makes me laugh, ESPECIALLY given you’re a vegan ;)! And for what it’s worth, vegan burgers can be as delicious as the real deal!

  11. Girl, if you’re going to go beef, you need to pick that thing up with your hands and just bite down. Go to town on that burger, and I love your salad. It’s looks delicious and I’d be thrilled to eat that rabbit food any day. I love a little bit of finely diced and roasted sweet potato or veggies in my salad, and I also can’t pass up some kind of cheese or nuts. It’s all about the flavors and textures.
