New product finds

After spending 5 days in China with my sister & brother-in-law, I feel like I’ve come back to Mumbai with plenty of fresh insight.Β  Between my sister sharing her domestic woes and explaining how she is slowly overcoming the language/cultural barriers in China versus my BIL enlightening me on how to efficiently make moolah in the long-run, conversation was always somewhat entertaining.

Something else which was rather entertaining was checking out the grocery stores over there.Β  Laugh all you want but I love browsing supermarket aisles in different countries and potentially finding new-to-me products.Β  On that note, my BIL continued to dole out some more of his insight:

My sister and I are a marketer’s dream

I’m not even going to try & deny it because he is absolutely right: I am easily swayed by new products and pretty packaging.Β  Finding products which are otherwise unavailable in Mumbai provide me with great joy- cheap thrills, people, cheap thrills!Β  To avoid getting too carried away, in terms of both my wallet and luggage allowance, I tread the food stores in Singapore* & China with caution.Β  In other words, I tried to only buy products I have never tried in the past:

  • A few of the bars I picked up: ideal for on-the-go snacking:

  • Apparently regular quinoa is passΓ© now:

  • Chocolate-coated sunflower & pumpkin seeds…consider them glorified M&M’s, delicious nonetheless:

  • Hearing that this brand of chocolate peanut butter resembles Nutella was enough for me to buy a packet. As for the almond butter, I’m finally a convert:

  • Potentially one of the best breads I’ve eaten till date: the texture is perfectly moist and the stats are pretty stellar too:

  • Unsurprisingly these are ridiculously addictive…and are a perfect addition to trail mixes, or even just eaten straight up plain:

  • These are basically roasted & seasoned sheets of seaweed.Β  The sushi lover in me is a big fan:

  • The package says “Irresistible Snacking”…no kidding:

As for why my suitcase weighed 4 kilograms more than the pathetic luggage allowance allocated by Singapore Airlines, I think we all have a better understanding why :).

*If you’re ever in Singapore, Brown Rice Paradise in Tanglin Mall (on Tanglin Road, near Orchard Road) is a gold mine! *

Have you come across any new products recently?

  1. Justin’s PB is amazing! And I’m so glad you got to spend QT with your sister and BIL. So fun πŸ™‚

My favorite new product has to be the So Delicious ice cream sandiches I tried a couple of weeks ago. They’re the perfect amount of sweetness!

  2. I’m so envious of your trip! I want to travel again…to Asia especially. I LOVE Singapore.

Lately I’ve been eating plantain chips like they are going out of style. So delicious.

  3. Yess yay for all of the new products! I love that you highlighted all of these, I am always on the lookout for new stuff and I like that you reviewed it too πŸ™‚ I want to try those nut thins, yum!

  4. I love that Justin’s PB, it really is like a good for you nutella–yummm. I love trying new products! Haven’t branched out recently, though–I’ve been on a budget which sorta limits experimentation. Hopefully I can try something new soon, or at least a new restaurant!

  5. Cool stuff!
I’d love it all, ESPECIALLY the choccy covered sunflower seeds:). And browzing supermarkets is perhaps the best thing ever.

You NEED to to try the Justins chocolate HAZELNUT butter( beats the peanut version hands down!), seriously its the bomb.
    Xxx

  6. Mmm…they all look really good! I love trying out things that I can’t here in Aus! Will have to make a stop there in Singapore!

Wow this looks awesome. You hit the jackpot with all that loot. I eat Quest bars but I see a few in there I might like to try!

  8. Woah, is that red quinoa! Too cool! I haven’t tried any new products in a while actually, but that’s cos I’m trying to save money. Budgeting sucks!

Ha! I’m the same way in new countries – I could spend hours checking out all the different foods in their grocery stores! πŸ˜€ It looks like you got some great stuff on your trip. I’m really intrigued by those coconut chips!

  10. Anything with the word “thins” in the title always makes me chuckle. That said they do look good! I’ve never seen red quinoa in shops either but have contemplated ordering some online – let me know how you like it!
