Since moving to Mumbai, I don’t think I’ve missed London as much as I did yesterday. I have no doubt that if I were there, I would have learned every nitty gritty detail about the epic Royal Wedding…more so than I already managed! How can you not be excited: it’s the ultimate fairytale happy ending- the “commoner” finds her prince charming *cue in aawwws*.
Despite being 4,477 miles away, I still managed to come across a few fun facts about Kate & Willy:
- They had 2 cakes: one was 8- tier and made up of 17 fruit cakes. The other…wait for it…was made from McVities chocolate biscuits 😛 !
- Kate is the oldest royal bride ever!
- To symbolise her transition into royalty, Kate came to the wedding in a car but left in carriage.
- Obama was snubbed from the guest list because of the expensive costs associated with the added security to protect him.
- Given the mishap marriages between Prince Charles/Princess Di and Prince Andrew/Fergie, it seems like Prince William & Kate are the first royal couple to sign a pre-nup 😯
I say it like my opinion matters but I really think Kate (or should I say Catherine ;)) is going to fit wonderfully in the royal family. She’s gorgeous and simply oozes personality!
In spirit of the Royal Wedding and due to the fact that I am seriously missing London, I thought I’d compile one of those ‘You Know You’re a Londoner Lists’.
You Know You’re a Londoner When…
- You don’t seem to question paying £2+ for a cup of coffee
- You don’t leave home without your Oyster card …
- Or an umbrella for that matter
- Every conversation inevitably turns into being about the weather
- You have never considered visiting ‘The Dome’ or ‘Tower of London’
- You never really mind the gap
- You refer to areas by their postcode e.g. NW8/W1
- You don’t bat an eyelid when people strip down to their underwear when the weather turns slightly warm
- You rather go to the cinema on a Wednesday
- You use the word cheers even if you’re not actually making a toast
- Everyone is a mate, regardless of how well you know them
- You get ultimate comfort from dipping rich tea or digestive biscuits in a cuppa
- You refer to beer as a pint
- You always walk as though you’re in a hurry to reach somewhere
- You know that American chocolate doesn’t light a candle to Dairy Milk
- You refuse to accept the fact that colour and neighbour can be spelt without a U
- You’re surprised when a stranger is chatty/friendly
- At least 5 of these applied to you
When do you know you’re a Londoner?
When the sun is shining the skies are blue, you know it’s going to be a great day.
I didn’t know that Kate is the oldest royal bride. Good to know! Love all the facts – so much symbolism in that wedding!
Thanks for all the cool facts about the wedding! I kept wondering why the Obamas weren’t there, but now it makes sense!
Starting today, I’m hosting a 100 Miles in May Challenge! If you’re interested in participating, come over and visit my blog: http://www.smallhomebigstart.blogspot.com/ All participants are entered in a draw for a $20 gift card from Amazon!
Thanks for letting me know…will check it out for sure and good luck!
I’m such a Londoner (more than 5 things apply)!
Two other fun facts about the Royal wedding:
– Kate did her own wedding make-up!
– Her tiara was borrowed from the Queen (was a gift to the Queen from her mother for her 18th). Made in 1936, it is estimated to be worth £94,000.
Yowsers- 94 grand for a hair piece! Although that’s nice of the Queen to lend it to Kate!
Loved watching the royal wedding. I have a feeling this wedding will last!
me too!
