I’m currently lying on my sofa watching reruns of “Friends” for the eight-billionth time but in my defence, my morning justifies it. I ain’t a bum for nothing..at least not today :). I woke up this morning with an absurd amount of energy despite having only slept for 6 hours, so I thought ‘wa-hey let’s make the most of it’. What do I go and do- a 40-minute run followed by 45 minutes of body pump. As I haven’t lifted a single weight for the last month or so, I really forced myself to go for the class. I won’t even deny it- I’m a straight up wimp when it comes to weights.
Strength training can be so unappealing at times, but it’s such a must to incorporate it into your workouts. Along with giving your physique better definition (those inches will fall off before your eyes), it does wonders for your metabolism. Even after finishing your workout, your muscles continue to burn calories. And ladies, if you’re worried you’ll end up looking like good ol’ Arnie Schwarzeneggar, relax- we don’t have enough testosterone to bulk up to even quarter his amount :).
If, like me, you are unmotivated to weight train, definitely try out a body pump class. It’s a female dog while you’re doing it so just try and enjoy the burn. Trust me, you’ll feel so satisfied once the 45 minutes/hour is over. Watch out though- even songs which normally boost your mood like ‘I Got a Feeling’ seem to go on forever. By the end of the track, you’ll want to throw something at Fergie/Will.I.Am ;). Also make sure you refuel up properly afterwards to replenish your muscles and prevent hunger pangs later on in the day. Carnivore or not, get some protein in you…actually get a lot in you ;).
