And onto another flight I go! Travelling to London felt like I was coming home. Now I feel like I’m going on holiday! I’m off to Vegas tomorrow for a cousin’s wedding and of course I’m super excited. How can I not be- a new place with a ton of family and delicious food (hopefully America’s reputation will stand true).
However the one thing I am dreading is the 11-hour direct flight. Yikes, a double-digit figure beside the ‘time until duration’ is rather daunting. When I travel, I’m a bit of a Mary Poppins: my hand carrier is full of snacks and some kind of pre-packed meal. It’s no secret that plane food is ridiculously calorific, and yet the taste hardly compensates. I’m telling you peeps- planning ahead is key: if anything, your taste buds will thank you. Normally I would pack a killer sandwich but I am trying to lay off the bread over the next few days. Like I mentioned previously, it sometimes has a bloating effect for me and that’s not a risk I can afford to take right now. And with the Indian festival of Raksha Bhandan falling on Tuesday (which means vegetarian on the menu), my choices are only further narrowed. Anyhow, after much thinking, here’s what’s in my lunchbox, er I mean hand luggage ;). Chances are I won’t eat everything I have packed, but hopefully the good mix of proteins and wholegrain carbohydrates, and various snacks will tackle both my hunger and boredom levels:
Breakfast: An iced soya latte from Starbucks or a cup of English breakfast before I board the flight. I’ve bought a pot of cinnamon & raisin-flavoured instant porridge which only requires the addition of hot water. I’m also taking a Ziploc filled with a baby banana, blueberries and flaked almonds to chuck in the pot.
Lunch: Brown rice nasi goreng with added vegetables and a Quorn veggie burger (Sushi tastes great cold so here’s hoping).
Celebrations-sized Snickers
Snacks:
- Ryvita mini bites
- An apple
- 2 Alpen Light bars
- I’ve also opted for the raw vegetable platter as my main meal so that will also be avail
**note to self: must also remember to pack some Panadol as I won’t lie- my family sure know how to yap away ;)!
