As you must have gathered from some of my recipes (e.g. Diet coke chicken), I am somewhat adventurous in the kitchen. While some of the tested recipes are repeat-worthy, others are purely dustbin material. Unfortunately the latter describes my baking experience yesterday.
Everyone knows that Saturdays are all about eating cake (as are Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays…you catch my drift ;)). However buying a cake seemed far too easy and I was in the mood to get my apron on. After numerous Google searches, I came across an ‘interesting’ brownie recipe. With the key ingredient being black beans, this recipe was a bit of gamble. But then I remembered that some of the best recipes are always the ones that appear strange on face value. So off to Wholefoods & Tesco I went.
My verdict: the pictures online looked fudgelike+cakey. The batter’s consistency was like a brownie. The whiffs coming from the oven smelled heavenly. Sadly enough, all these signs were plain ol’ deceiving and only led to disappointment. It tasted like..a can of beans. Don’t you just hate it when something tastes nothing like what you envisioned?? 🙁
Although I did finish my piece, thinking about the taste/texture still makes me quiver. To maintain my credibility, I’m going to spare you from the recipe. But if you are curious, I still have quite a few pieces remaining which are going once, going twice. And until I come across the perfect cake/brownie recipe which is both healthy & reasonable in calories, I better stick to making my baked oatmeal.
hahaha YUCK sounds so grim!! oat pancakes over bean brownies any day!
