Brunch at OPSO

Hey guys! Hope you all had an enjoyable weekend and got in a healthy dose of vitamin D sunshine…I know my fellow Londoners did! This gorgeous sunshine/blue sky combination makes you totally forget about London’s miserable rainy weather during the rest of the year.

If anything, it makes me fall in love with the city even more.  While there was plenty of deliciousness and adult bevvies to go around, yesterday was particularly fruitful.  First up was brunch with the madre to celebrate Mother’s Day at OPSO on Marylebone high street. Given we walk past this Greek gem multiple times daily, it was about time we tried it out.

Although their ‘G & T’ selection sounded extremely appealing, particularly the PINK Gin & Tonic (Beefeater London Gin, elderflower cordial, a splash of cranberry juice & berries), I gave the alcohol a miss.  Let’s just say I had my fair share earlier on in the weekend. I went with the unsweetened Pomegranate  iced tea without sugar, which was especially refreshing. My mum went with a draft beer because hey, SUNDAY!

After debating between the OPSO Eggs Benedict (which were ranked among the best brunch dishes of London for 2015) & the Kayanas, my mom & I both ordered the latter:

Greek scrambled eggs on grilled sourdough bead with wilted cherry tomatoes & barrel matured feta.

Despite my usual gravitation towards poached eggs, I was so pleased with my choice – just look at those creamy chunks of feta!

While coleslaw tends to be a mayo bomb, OPSO’s vibrant Greek twist was much more up my alley: Quinoa, cabbage, carrot, spring onion, dill and sherry vinaigrette.

It’s definitely a salad I need to recreate when I return to Bombay! And of course a side portion of tzatziki in any Greek restaurant is always in order:

Cool, creamy & enough to help beat the heat!  Shortly after I had plans to meet my friend Deeya for tea. However when the day is deemed to be the hottest of the year so far, gelato seems slightly more appropriate…and where better than Snowflake Gelato in the Food Hall at Selfridges:

After multiple samples, I went with the ‘chocolate hazelnut’ (right) whereas Deeya rolled with a scoop each of the ‘cardamom’ & ‘roasted almond’ (left):

Oh and guys, forget about the cone/cup dilemma. The only way to do it is by ordering it in a cup with a cone on top–> crunchy goodness without the sticky, drippy mess.

So much deliciousness, so many good vibes…if only the sun would stay out to play a bit longer!

What’s your favourite Greek dish?

What’s your favourite gelato flavour?

What’s the weather currently like in your hood?

  1. Glad to hear the sun is coming out in London! Just when you think London can’t get any more pretty, the sun comes and makes you go wow!
My favourite greek food would be a good greek salad with lots of olives and feta – yum! For gelato, it would be pistachio – although I have yet to find pistachio as good as it was in Florence… I doubt I ever will!
Weather in Perth is sunny but so cold! Well, 18 degrees but when you are used to double that this is cold!

    1. Oh yes- you can’t beat a Greek salad, so simple yet so flavourful!! I’m not a big pistachio fan when it comes to gelato/ice cream but it used to be my dad’s favourite!!

  2. Anything with feta cheese is a winner in my book! That egg dish looks incredible. And my fav gelato flavor right now is PB chocolate. SOO GOOD!
