Friday Favourites: Guangzhou Edition

Hey guys! It’s been a while since I’ve done a Friday Favourites post so when better than now to rectify that than now:

  • Unlike previous trips to Guangzhou when I ate out & went around the city plenty, this trip has involved loads of home time with my baby nephew…and I don’t mind one bit.  Especially given the amazing variety of local produce  available here, eating at home is pretty exciting.  Rather than buy regular button mushrooms which are so widely available in Mumbai, I’ve been going crazy over enoki mushrooms, chanterelles (a.k.a black trumpets) & straw mushrooms.

  • Another new-to-me produce which I’m loving? Purple sweet potatoesFun fact: Although they taste like their orange-fleshed counterparts, purple sweet potatoes contain compounds like anthocyanin which help reduce the risk of various chronic diseases…and they’re just so pretty!

  • Between summer creeping up and travelling, I’m sure my new collapsible water bottle will become a handbag staple.  Bonus points that it’s also BPA-free & eco-friendly!

  • Have you  guys seen the TV show Fresh off The Boat?  It’s based on an Asian-American family who have moved from Washington D.C.’s Chinatown to Orlando’s suburbs & is h-i-larious!  The show’s format kinda reminds me of Everybody Hates Chris.

  • I am slowly trying to transition into only using chemical-free body products & Forest Essentials has made that much easier.  Rather than a generic body moisturiser, I’ve started to use their Replenishing Bath & Shower Oil, which I highly recommend- it’s not greasy at all & my skin has never felt softer!

Enjoy your weekend- hope the sun is out wherever you are :)!

What vegetable are you loving lately?

What show are you watching on TV now?

  1. You know how I said that orange foods make my stomach feel all wonky? I seriously need to try purple sweet potatoes and see if those would be okay on it because I miss those suckers! And I’m currently going through the same thing with trying to transition to more natural products… which is proving to be more difficult than I’d like it to be!

    1. Ooh that’s a good idea about trying out purple sweet potatoes- hopefully it won’t have any adverse effects like its orange counterparts.

  2. I have seen those purple potatoes at a South Asian store I shop at – I had no clue they were a nutritionally better choice than their counterparts! Thanks Khushboo for that info! Fresh off the boat sounds hilarious – I haven’t seen it yet – but plan to – soon!
Enjoy your time in Guangzhou and your time with your nephew and family! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  3. Not only are purple foods generally pretty, they are awesome nutritionally. I need to get my hands on some of those potatoes. I wouldn’t mind your pile of eggs either.

I just recently transitioned my make up over, moving onto the skin care lines next. It’s such a tedious process though because pretty much everything is tainted with something or other.
