Friday Favorites: 07/11

Happy Friday, you guys!  I actually wrote y’all, re-read it and then deleted it after realizing I can’t pull off the Southern lingo!  This week flew by so quickly- how have I already been back in Mumbai for a whole week??  Although I did experience some post-holiday blues, I am now back to normal- it feels good to be in a routine.  It’s been ages since I put up a Friday Favorites post so here goes:

  • While it’s not as conventional a condiment as ketchup or mustard, Nando’s Peri Peri sauce has become a staple for me.  From quinoa bowls to chicken, eggs & sautéed veggies, I have been adding this sauce to EVERYTHING for an extra kick.  Despite my Indian roots, my spice threshold is pathetic, so Wild Herb is as hot as I can handle.

  • Without giving too much away, The Fault in Our Stars tells the story of  2 cancer patients who meet at a support group & fall in love.  As much as I sobbed throughout the movie, it’s equally heartwarming.  My only regret is not reading the book first given that books tend to be even better than the movie!

  • I laughed my way through Buzzfeed’s take on Food On Instagram v Food in Reality…only because I could 100% identify .  If you’ve ever posted a foodie photo on Instagram or blogged about food, chances are you too are guilty to some extent ;).

Food on insta v reality

  • While I’m not the biggest advocate of processed foods, these Dr. Karg’s crispbreads remain an exception given their all-natural & organic ingredient list including oats, sesame seeds & linseeds.  As much as I love carbs like sweet potato & quinoa, sometimes a meal just needs some crunch…and it’s a good thing that these taste delicious too.  It makes me laugh when people only consider animal-based products as protein sources.  A single crispbread racks in 3.5g of protein…not too shabby!  Eat your heart out, Ryvita!

  • Although I haven’t really been infected with the World Cup fever this time round, even I couldn’t resist getting into the Germany-Brazil match on Tuesday.  For my fellow Friends fans who are wondering how many goals Germany scored, watch this link:

And that’s all I got for you today!  Have a great weekend!

Who are/were you supporting this World Cup?

What’s currently your favourite condiment?

  1. You and Amanda (aka Spoons) have been posting pictures of crispbreads and my curiosity has been piqued, seeing I have never had one before! That one looks exceptional – am hoping they are not wheat based.
That clip of Monica – too funny! I am supporting Argentina – but, this year I have been so busy I haven’t watched a whole game – just the highlights.
P.S. – You came in my kitchen and sneaked a picture and didn’t stay for coffee – or a sip of that messy smoothie – boo!
    😉
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Ah these do contain wholewheat flour…but hopefully they have wheat-free varieties? Our kitchens sound as ‘neat’ as each others ;)!

  2. …….K, me and my mother are embarrassed on your behalf at your heat threshold…whenever we go to Nandos, we douse our food in the XXXHot limited one (only available in stores…dang!).

I used to love Ryvita crackers until I got called a bird in school.

    1. Hahah we are as bad as each other! I want to watch the finals tomorrow but with time difference, that means staying up till 1.30 am….prooooobably not going to happen!

    1. You and me both…I find that foods that are too spicy get me too full too quickly because I have to follow each bite with a bucket of water 😉

  3. Hahhahahahahhaha at the 7..7 ;).
Now where can I find the peri peri sauce?
And that book…sounds so much what I would like to read.. ( or watch)

  4. I go for the extra hot at nandos. Got my money on Germany, withdrawal symptoms awaiting and that Friends 7 is hilarious. Going to see Fault in the Stars on Sunday. Have a great weekend!

  5. Haha, I have written and deleted “ya’ll” so many times for the exact same reason!
I loved The Fault in Our Stars, but still do read the book because I do think it’s even better than the movie! Though for some reason, I didn’t cry during the book (not the same for the movie!).
I didn’t end up watching any of the world cup… I’m just really not into soccer. I feel bad about it too because my best friends plays soccer and loves it. I don’t mind watching her games though. It always helps when you know someone who is playing. 🙂

  6. Oh my gosh, that Buzzfeed article for food on Instagram versus reality was fabulous, although if they inside of my fridge looked like that, I’d have to but a new fridge. 🙂 I can’t handle that kind of mess.

I love spicy foods, so the hotter the better. Actually moderate heat is good; my threshold isn’t that high. 🙂

  7. There is this one girl who works with me who is adamant about TFIOS movie being better than the book. Haven’t read the book or seen the movie, so I can’t say 😛
