A quick breakfast

Hi guys!  I am just popping in from London a.k.a my home away from home.  I spent the weekend getting back in the swing of being back here.  We recently moved homes so along with getting past the jet lagged, I’ve also been familiarising myself with my new surroundings.  I’m not going to lie, I kinda love the fact that Tesco supermarket is now my neighbor.  It’s relatively small, but big enough to pick up the essentials…which is exactly what I did when I landed:

The only thing missing to really consider the above my essentials are eggs.  I feel like I face the same dilemma every trip back to London: Eating meals at home made from delicious “London” groceries (i.e. foods not  available in Mumbai) or embracing the array of restaurants…hashtag first-world foodie problems ;)!  In terms of the former, I ate an epic breakfast over the weekend:

I am hesitatnt to call this a recipe so let’s go with a “meal idea”

Turkey & Avocado Tartine

  • Pumpernickel bread
  • Wholegrain (or dijon) mustard
  • Baby spinach
  • Turkey breast slices
  • Avocado slices
  • Finely ground black pepper

Once bread is toasted, spread with mustard.  Top with baby spinach, turkey breast slices & avocado slices.  Top with black pepper.  Dig in.

Easy & delicious!  I foresee this being repeated mucho over the next few weeks as a quick breakfast or lunch around here.  I had it with a side of Alpro Coconut Milk, which is total liquid deliciousness.  Especially if you like piña coladas, you NEED to try this stuff….and you’ll also need to add your own rum ;)!

What’s for breakfast and/or lunch today?

  1. I love this idea! So easy and it definitely involves all my favorites – though I wouldn’t mind to have that sunny side up egg on top 🙂
Rum for breakfast?? I am shocked, Khushboo!! Kidding. I like the idea. 🙂

  2. I loved Tesco’s when I was there- So well priced and some were double storey too! Ironically, my favourite things were the prepackaged chicken too! I eat that exact sandwich all the time BUT with a magic ingredient…vegemite. Do it. I KNOW it’s available in the UK.

    1. Okay so I have this mind block about marmite- i need to change that and also try vegemite…just for you!

  3. Yum – what a fabulous meal idea – I am starting to think Avocado is the most easy going, compatible partner out there – I haven’t tried it with turkey yet – didn’t even think about it till I saw your post, so thanks lady for this meal idea!
Glad you made it safely and being neighbors with a Tesco is enviable indeed, if you tell me there’s a Marks & Spencer around the block too, am moving there pronto! 🙂

  4. You know what’s crazy? Savoury breakfasts have actually been looking more and more appealing to me lately — this coming from a girl who LIVES for her sweet tooth. I still haven’t taken the plunge, but I feel like it’s only a matter of time before it happens. This morning, breakfast was ABJ oats with chia seeds added in. That’s something new I’ve been trying and omigosh… I’m kind of in love.

    1. I can’t even imagine oats without chia seeds anymore- they definitely take ’em to the next level 🙂

  5. Sometimes the simple meals make for the best meals. I love seeing your grocery haul; it looks pretty perfect to me, even without the eggs, which brings me to today’s breakfast. I had two fried eggs and two slices of English Muffin toast with butter. Lunch so far has been leftover strawberry rhubarb upside down cake. Gotta get my fruit in. 😉

  6. I’m having the weirdest thing for lunch that I tried over the weekend and loved – almond butter and cheddar cheese sandwich. Doesn’t that sound weird? It’s really good though! The key is high quality cheese, otherwise I think it would be gross.
