8 on the 8th

Happy Friday, guys!  It feels like the weekend has come along almost too quickly, especially as Monday and Tuesday were public holidays for Diwali.  However I can’t, well shouldn’t, complain.  Given that I’ve been finding it so hard to concentrate these past few days, I’m welcoming the weekend with open arms :).  In the midst of procrastination, I came across some great reads which I wanted to share- they’re the perfect side for your Sunday morning stack of pancakes…

  • Something you probably don’t know about me: I’m a hopeless romantic.  While I try not to keep my standards unrealistically high, this article on why Marriage Isn’t For You truly enforces that good guys like Seth Adam Smith still do exist.  I love this line from the post:

To all who are reading this article—married, almost married, single, or even the sworn bachelor or bachelorette—I want you to know that marriage isn’t for you. No true relationship of love is for you. Love is about the person you love.

  • When it comes to cleaning up one’s diet, words like lean protein, wholegrains, fruits, vegetables and omega 3s are immediately thrown around. When it comes to anti-ageing, botox and fancy creams often come to mind.  However one that tends to go amiss in both cases is the importance of drinking enough water.  I love this article on How drinking Three Litres of Water a Day Took Away 10 Years from My Face …thirsty anyone?
  •  Although the US is on my “To Live” list, living in Lagos, London & Mumbai meant I could relate to so many of these Truths About Growing up in Multiple Cities.  Unfortunately packing is still not an efficient and quick superpower of mine!
  • PLEASE watch this video on Photoshop, which speaks volumes about the media and its effect on promoting unrealistic body standards.  Consider this your ticket to looking like the lady in the magazine with an “amazing figure”!

Have a great weekend, guys…I sure plan to :)!

If you could live in any city/country, where would you pick?

  1. These are some amazing links Khushboo – I couldn’t wait till Sunday so I checked out a few, the Seth Adam Smith one on marriage – wow! Here’s to finding the right chap -someday 🙂
The 21 best things in a restaurant – too funny! I was lol-ing at #1, and yup, I would be the one doing the walk of shame back to my table a la #5! The 29 truths about growing up in multiple cities – I LOVED every single one, #1 and #4 so my dilemma-I have spent my life so far in 4 cities -Sri Lanka, Abu Dhabi, London and Atlanta – speaking of picking one, wow – i don’t know if I could-would love to live temporarily on the west coast… 🙂 And the 29 photos that put our struggles in perspective – wow amazing eye opener indeed! And the 3 liters of water – that woman looks like she shaved 20 years off just with water!

    1. Ah you are so well-travelled! Where would you say you’ve enjoyed living in most? I am actually going to Abu Dhabi later this month- if you have any recommendation, please do share :)!

  2. Those photoshop videos never fail to amaze me… no wonder women struggle with body image when our idea of beauty is fabricated by a computer. Ugh. And that article about water absolutely blew me away. I already do my best to drink 2L a day, but I definitely notice an improvement in both my digestion and overall health when I drink even MORE than that. Time to develop an even closer relationship with my water bottle than I had before.

Thanks for the great links, lady! And happy Friday!

    1. Haha just when I think my bladder can’t handle any more water, some new motivation creeps up- cheers to anti-ageing ;)!

  3. I loved the Marriage Isn’t For Your piece! I can vouch for the fact that it’s all true too! If you go into it with an “it’s all about me” attitude, you’re in big trouble! Can’t wait to look at all the other links later today. 🙂

  4. I like reading articles/seeing videos on how unrealistic models are as well as just how much their photoshopped. I saw some pictures the other day of how celebrities look without the makeup and they looked like everyone else and sometimes looked like different people. Great links

    1. Exactly- and when they show celebrities going to get coffee in tracks & sans makeup, it’s just a reminder that they are also NORMAL people!

  5. Oh man, I don’t know if I could choose a place I’d love to live. There are SO many awesome places I’d love to go to.
I don’t think I’ve read any of these articles this week. Off to do some reading!
    Happy weekend!

  6. These are all GREAT links and points to bring up! I’ve actually read the one about the restaurants and seen the video, just earlier this morning as a matter of fact, but am looking forward to checking out the other ones!
You’re right, that photoshop video is a remarkable one… we need more material like that to keep getting the public informed and educated on the well… falseness of it all!

    1. I couldn’t agree more- hopefully videos like that keep increasing awareness that these kinds of standards are NOT real life :)!

  7. Thanks Khushboo, for these interesting articles. Will read them all. For now I’m going to just go grab my water bottle 😉

  8. if i could pick any city/country, it would be NYC.. i live outside it cause it’s too $$$$$. I’m scare of moving after a traumatic move from Nigeria to the US.
I read that article on marriage isn’t for you.. definitely true, hard to implement, the key it both parties need to do it, not just one. I think i’m one of those who believes in what do I gain… very hard to implement.

  9. That video….urgh.

My friend works in print advertising and they have this booklet of ‘ethical’ standards for what can go to print and she said 95% of advertisers/magazines etc break this rule so its pretty much fair game for most things.

If I could live in any city- definitely NYC or London- cliche but I love both so much and they speak English too 😉 Have a great weekend buddy 🙂

  10. That video is just too mind boggling.
I have a request. Is it possible for yu to blog about how to stay on track when going on a vacation. Also, what to carry in the plane as snacks.

I would pick Dubai, SF or London. I am very well acquaintd with all three and I ♡ them.

But…As my parents are here I would not wana leave lol.

Thanks for todays post. Very good!!!

  11. Great round up! I’ll have to check then out and make sure I’m drinking 3Ls of water a day! 🙂 I liked that post by Sethas well, my husband would never write something like that sadly.

  12. vuppala gopinath

That was an excellent blog. I read the blog including links. I loved it. Thanks for sharing. I would settle in my hometown I.e Visakhapatnam a small beach town in andhrapradesh in india. It has all needed for a peaceful and enjoyful life. Happy weekend.

  13. I should be working right now, so thank you for helping me procrastinate a little further 😉

I wasn’t surprised by many of those things on the American list. Many things are very similar to living in Australia/the UK, plus it helps that I have a Canadian husband who lived in America for 6 years – he has told me lots of stories about these things! What I do find interesting is that it has more overweight people than anywhere else, but also more fitness-obsessed people. Talk about going from one extreme to the other!

I wish more restaurants gave a discount for well-behaved kids. Or charged people who let their kids run wild. That’s genius!

  14. If I could take 10 years away from my face…what a concept. Can’t wait to read the article.

Discounts for well-behaved kids…I love that! My kid is well-behaved. 🙂

  16. Wow, that photo shop video was incredible. Thanks for sharing.

The list of things in American is dead on. Wow. Also, apparently I’m on trend since I made muffins using veggies: Butternut Squash Muffins to be exact and they were delicious.

  17. Love the new food trends…I have recently found the deliciousness that is hemp seeds and I don’t plan on looking back! And I’m gonna have to keep an eye out for those kimchi chips! And I saw that article about the restaurants sometime last week and loved it…how about that one with the picture of the buff guy in the ladies restroom? haha!

I tried to play the video but unfortunately, it looks like it’s been taken off YouTube!
    🙁
