Friday Favorites: 09/20

Happy Friday…I’m very happy indeed!  At the risk of sounding like a major cheeseball, I have been counting down to today- my sister gets into town :). Between trying to stay on top of work & the blawg before she reaches, it’s been a busy week.  Enough work talk though!  Here are some of my favorites from the week….and the week before:

  • Getting sent baked goods is pretty sweet, but even more so when they come unexpected!  I was pleasantly surprised to receive a Studio Fifteen swag bag last week that included Le15’s famous macarons.  Despite looking so pretty, I’ve never been a fan of this confection.  Fortunately these were an exception, enough to make me a convert!  I opted for the sea salt flavor which tasted ah-mazing, not overly sweet or eggy like macarons I’ve tried in the past.

  • When I joined my current gym, I was glad to see spinning bikes in the cardio section, especially as the closest spin class to me is a 20-minute drive away…on a good day.  Once you get passed the ass-numbing effect of sitting on the bike, spinning a great low-impact alternative to running. As much as I love to run, my treadmill threshold is max 40 minutes…max.

Spinning

  •  When I’m eating out with friends/family, the company makes the most difference.  But let’s be honest, the outing is so much more enjoyable when the food is on par.  Fortunately the sushi more than measured up at Kofuku last weekend.  I “rolled” with my favorite roll there: The Cherry Blossom.  Between the avocado, salmon & tuna, this bad boy is a triple threat 😉

  • In terms of appearance, teacups are super cute.  But in reality, they are an awful drinking vehicle.  Unless you have a butler refilling your cup after every other sip, mugs are definitely the way to go…that too the bigger the better :).  Given the size & design of my new Starbucks tumbler, long car journeys have suddenly become all the more bearable & thankfully spillage-free.

And to ensure you have a great weekend…

33) Tip your server 100%, and resist the urge not to hang around to see his/her reaction.

58) Find a friend’s email from like, 2007 that you never answered, and reply as though no time has passed at all.

What’s your favorite macaron flavor?

How do you get in your cardio?

  1. Haha, Rolled with it. Punny girl. sorry, Funny girl.

I’m with you on the macarons- I can go past them without batting an eyelid. However, they are all the rage here, so much so Mcdonalds has a limited edition range- no joke.

Favorite cardio is without a doubt the step master- purely because I can read concurrently 😉 I also think I’ll do number 58 too. Have a great weekend with your sister buddy!

    1. Hahaa a punner after my own heart – love it :)! I’ve been shying away from the step master at the gym but you’re making me want to give it a go :)!

  2. How cute is this sushi-cherry-blossom! I would totally dig into that. And I had a little smirk on my face when you mentioned the “ass-numbing effect” of cycling. After my first cycling classes I couldn’t walk the stairs for days. Though I definitely prefer running, it’s great for a change and definitely challenging.

  3. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about macarons either. I mean, they’re pretty and all, but there are definitely other things I prefer over them. That being said, I do love the salted caramel ones from a local bakery here.

I hope you have an amazing time with your sister! I’ve always wanted one, but I get stuck being an only child…

  4. how exciting that your sister is visiting 🙂 I am not too crazy about macarons bu its nice to get surprises. Recently my form of cardio is treadmill too which I cant go beyond 30-40 mins, yea MAX for me too. Once I left a pretty sweet tip and a note related to 33) but could not fight the urge although the server got so busy and I had to leave without seeing his reaction 😛

  5. I wayyyy prefer spinning bikes to stationary bikes. Unfortunately my gym only keeps the spinning bikes in the spinning class room, so I can only use them if there isn’t already a spin class going on (I prefer to spin on my own instead of attending a class).

That sushi roll looks like serious perfection!

    1. Ah I’m the opposite- I feel like I don’t get the most of the bike when I’m spinning solo…I’m on my gym’s case to start offering classes!

  6. The first time (and the last time) I took a spinning class, I sprained my ankle on the bike. Talk about embarrassing! Those macarons look fab…I had a couple for the first time this year and it truly was love at first bite.

  7. Aww, have a great weekend with your sister!
And I’ve never actually tried a macaroon. I keep meaning to because they look so damn pretty, but then I usually end up being distracted by something else (usually something covered in chocolate…)
And apparently, this is the post of things I haven’t done, because I’ve never tried spin before either. I don’t really have an excuse anymore because my current gym has a million + 1 (clearly not exaggerating at all) spin classes, so I really should give it a shot…I’m just afraid of the ass-numbing effects :-p Usually, I get my cardio in with walks, runs outside, bike rides, and intervals on the treadmill. Although the new gym has TVs on the treadmills, which will make indoor cardio a lot more bearable…the only way I can watch talk shows anymore!

  8. Yayyyyyyy for your sis visiting!!!! I haven’t had a macaroon in a long while cos I am not a big fan of them…but if there was a PB&Chocolate one…hmm…I might just have to try it.
What I would also like to try is that Cherry blossom sushi – yum!
Luv luv luv “100 Ways To Make Today Epic” have done 91 – and 96 – PB&Chocolate 🙂
These days most of my cardio has involved running outside – I love how when I am outside I feel I can just keep going, but am just like on on the treadmill! Hope you and sis have a wonderful visit!

    1. PB & Chocolate macaron…oh lord that alone sounds heavenly! And I feel you about running outdoors- I feel like I have a whole different kind of stamina when a treadmill isn’t involved!

  9. I love the new header!! and how fun your sister is in town! my sister was actually in town earlier this week and it was so nice to get dinner and catch up. hope you and your sister have a great time together! those macaroons are making my mouth water, i lovvve macaroons 🙂 and i love that tip your server 100% idea, i cant wait to see the rest on the list!

    1. Thanks so much Charlotte…I’ve been going and forth about the header but glad you like it :)! I’m glad you had a fun time with your sister!!

  10. I love how beautiful macaroons always look! They’re definitely yummy every once and awhile. There’s a delicious, authentic French restaurant near my place that does incredible macaroons. I love almond ones, and I tried an Earl Grey Tea one that was really good as well.
That sushi roll…oh my gosh! Looks perfect.

  11. Have an awesome weekend with your Sister!
Hm, I’m with you on the macarons, I’m not entirely sure if I’m a fan or not.
I think they are prettier to look at then to eat. I would just never crave one say over some ice cream!
The only way I get in cardio is spin classes or the occasional run (which never happens). I just love spin too much to try anything else.

  12. Dude, that pink sushi looks DIVINE! So gorgeous, too pretty to even eat. Mumbai’s food scene is booming, next time I visit India, my husband is all about visiting Bangalore, but maybe I can manipulate him into Mumbai. Let’s see.
My sister came to town today too. 🙂

    1. You better let me know WHEN you visit Bombay, OK????…I promise I’ll hook you up with some good food (dessert included) 😀

  13. Those macaroons look so gorgeous! I have never had a macaroon and that needs to be fixed quick! I just wish they weren’t so pricey 🙁

  14. Yum! I’m digging your sushi roll and iMac, the latter of which I am all set to get for Christmas provided we stay in England!

Oh and I finally got my hands on some of that freshly ground chocolate hazelnut butter at Whole Foods…… NOM!

    1. OMG Wholefoods have really upped their game. I’ve only ever seen freshly ground hazelnut butter in the bulk bin section which alone is to die for- I can only imagine what the addition of chocolate is like 😀

  15. Yay for sister bonding!! I miss my sister so much 🙁 I hope you guys have an amazing time together! AND you know how I feel about spinning 😀 enjoy it! Any class that gets me up before noon on a Saturday to work out is worth keeping 🙂

  16. Having family in town is probably one of the best things ever. I can’t wait for mine to come back to Cleveland sometime soon. It’s been way too long.

The tips to make today epic are great; there are some really funny ones in there.

I don’t know if I’m a fan of macaroons, but I sure do like those colors. They’re super pretty.

Spinning is one of my favorite workouts because it is low impact on my knees and it can totally kick my @ss, once I get over the whole bike seat pain, but that only takes a couple classes. Ha.

  17. I hope you had a great time with your sister this weekend!

That sushi looks really delicious. I can’t wait to try all the amazing food that India has to offer…things have changed so much since my last visit years ago!

  18. Omg, I LOVE the Epic list! Definitely going to make it a point to do some of these things soon! “Rolled” with it! Hahaha! Why Khusboo, you’re so punny! 😉

And seriously, I could lick my friggin’ computer screen right now where those macaroons are! I want them alllllll!
