The best piece of health advice…

A couple of weeks ago, my aunt shared her facialist’s advice with me.  She sees him every Friday and at the end of every session, she asks what she should “do” until they meet next.  Each time she is met with the same response each time:

Khao, Piyo, Jiyo

If you translate that into English, it means Eat, Drink, Live

How’s that for some healthy advice?  Wherever we turn, we are constantly bombarded with “tips” on how to achieve a healthier life, some more extreme than the other.  After a certain point, taking such steps towards the pursuit of health ends up doing just the opposite due to the stress it inevitably brings.  So this weekend, I challenge you to reconsider.  Whether that means…

…Downing a shot of vodka [OR] a shot of wheatgrass

…Digging into a bowl of ice cream [OR] a bowl of salad

...Running a marathon [OR] indulging in a TV marathon

Take a breather & let your hair down.  I can almost guarantee that you will be nourishing your mental & emotional health in the process.  And if you’re worried that it makes you weaker, you’re wrong…it makes you human!

What was the last thing you did for your mental/emotional health?

  1. Oh I love that!! So simple and so true!
I had a great dinner date last night (as you saw on the blog) and it was so relaxing, nourishing, funny and delicious! Today is my day of and I will love to waste my time 🙂 Happy Weekend Khushboo!

  2. Such a great post Khushboo- we could all use abit of going back to basics. Three very wise words said there. I’d implement them. If only I didn’t have a date with the textbook and the essays. Double it up on my behalf 😉

  3. So many people seem to have trouble relaxing/giving themselves mental breaks and it just makes me feel bad for them. It’s SO important to treat yourself to some down time in the midst of this crazy busy lifestyle that seems to be expected of everyone these days.
Last night, I went over to a friend’s apartment to just chill out, drink a glass of wine and watch a mindless movie. She works full time and is taking classes to get an MBA, so I KNOW she appreciated the down time!

  4. Love this! Sometimes being healthy means doing the opposite of what is traditionally considered healthy.

The last thing I did for my mental health was go to my therapist appointment on Tuesday. But other than that, this week has been crazy stressful and busy. I need to find a time to majorly relax after HLS this weekend!

  5. Love this post – I know, I need a reminder to “Khao, Piyo, Jiyo”!!!
Sometimes my relaxation comes from a long, slow run….for example, last night I put my headphones on/music off and went for a very slow 6 mile run and boy did that run soothe my soul! But this weekend, am gonna try my best to unwind…to “take a breather & let your hair down” 🙂
Hope you have an awesome weekend of “Khao, Piyo, Jiyo” Khushboo 🙂

    1. It’s funny how a run’s intentions can make all the difference i.e. 6 miles run for relaxation is so much more appealing than a 6 mile training run!

  6. I LOVE THIS POST. It’s so nice to know you can’t be perfect all the time! I eat healthy most days, but sometimes I want my cupcake, and I know that as long as it’s not an everyday thing, we can all indulge a little. After all, life isn’t worth living otherwise 😉

  7. Love this post girl! Well I can for sure tell you I won’t be drinking many wheatgrass shots this weekend as I have a going away party and a birthday party to attend, and I definitely will be making sure to live it up there.
I always consider my weekends a time for more indulgence and it’s SO nice to live a little every now and again.

  8. that’s totally my motto in life… eat drink live.
that’s pretty much what i’ve been doing for over a week, but now i’m gaining weight 🙁 not good.
I’ll burn it when i get home this weekend.
i believe in enjoying daily pleasures in life in moderation.
extreme anything is bad for you.

  9. Ahhh so true! I feel nowadays everyone is so hell bent on these rules to achieve a “healthy” lifestyle that they forget that gluten is not the devil, or that chocolate is the best thing on earth 🙂 Eat, drink, live – wise words!

  10. I’ve been watching a whole lot of Duck Dynasty for my mental health. That and reading my book, and it’s been lovely. I’m a doer but I also recognize the benefits of not doing anything so I like to mix a little bit of both into my days. Great sentiment.
