Meal inspiration

If Instagram is anything to go by, we are a generation that LOVES food.  Based on past uploads, it seems that my foodie pics generate the most likes…even more so when cringe-worthy hashtags accompany the photos like #foodgasm, #foodporn & #nomnomnom.

While social media is a godsend for keeping in touch, it also helps foster a healthier lifestyle to some extent.  Between flicking through other people’s Instagram fitness- & food-related photos as well as reading up recipes on other blogs, there is plenty of inspiration to go around.  Especially as seeing other people’s meal often stirs up creativity when planning my own meals, I wanted to share a few of my recent eats.  Hopefully they will lend some ideas for your upcoming lunches/dinners :):

  • Pasta Bake & Salad

  • Oatmeal topped with Peanut Butter & Homemade Chunky Applesauce

  • Mediterranean Chicken Stir Fry with Yogurt Sauce & Oat lollis (a.k.a. flatbread): I made the dip on the fly by combining plain yogurt with finely diced cucumbers, garlic powder, oregano and a bit of water to thin it out

  • Taco Frittata with a side of Green Beans, Salsa & Guacamole: Ketchup & mustard are so passé

photo 2

  • Creamy Chickpea Stir Fry with a side of Quinoa: Next time you’re using marinara sauce, try stirring in a couple teaspoons of cream cheese for extra creaminess.

What categories of photos do you tend to “like” more on Instagram (e.g. travel, food, fitness, quotes, humor, pics of people you know)?

What’s for lunch and/or dinner today?

  1. Cinnamon dusted potato wedges – what an interesting idea! I really need to try that-maybe for lunch or dinner or breakfast! Khushboo – I love your eats – I LOVE peanut butter on my oats too!!
Yuppers – you are correct, social media can truly enhance healthier eating as well as creativity in the kitchen. I do tend to like food photos and people photos…but food is always, always on my mind!

  2. IG is definitely a good source of foodie inspiration… but it’s a dangerous thing to look at if you’re not well fed. Like right now? I just woke up and you’re making me seriously hungry 😛 The oats are of course always a winner, but that Med chicken stir fry is looking mighty fine as well 😉

As for IG pics I like… it’s a mix of everything, really. Food, nature, animals, humour… Anything that looks or sounds nice.

  3. How strange has our society become, correlating words like porn with food… but it works! i’ll have to find kweigh- so much variety in those meals! I’m actually craving a pasta bake right now. As for dinner? Maybe check instagram in 10 😉

  4. I don’t have Instagram, but if I did, I would probably “like” food pictures the most – especially these! I love all the creativity in these meals.

Today for lunch I’m having a leftover homemade bean burger with avocado, sweet potato wedges, and broccoli & cauliflower with hummus and for dinner grilled chicken tacos with salsa verde!

  5. I tend to stay away from Instagram—food blogs are enough for me, haha!
Lunch will probably be quick and include some greek yogurt (strawberry banana Chobani!!) and dinner will probably be more balanced and relaxing :)!

  6. So now I need to go get some breakfast, because you have made me extremely hungry 😉 I tend to lean more towards ‘liking’ food pictures on instagram, particularly desserts…I also tend to like animal pictures, because having a dog has given me an “awww!” attitude whenever I see something cute and even remotely fluffy :-p

  7. actually a couple weeks ago as i was reading someone’s WIAW post, my boyfriend was reading over my shoulder and he goes- “suddenly im hungry. how do you look at these all day? dont you get starving??” i was like “I KNOW” its amazing i dont eat my whole kitchen on a daily basis with blogs like these 🙂

  8. Instagram definitely has the power to make me constantly hungry.
But, I do get a few good ideas from there.
Oatmeal and sweet potatoes are always a winner in my books:)
I love foodie photos, cute photos of animals, makeup photos, even some nature photos can be pretty cool.

  9. I’m going to be totally honest here (ah, when am I not? haha) and say that I usually skip over other people’s food posts. I continue to post my meals on IG because people find it interesting for some reason, but I really don’t care what other people are eating unless it’s at a restaurant in London or they have volunteered to come and cook for me!

I’d say that at least 90% of what people post on IG grosses me out anyway. All this healthified BS! That being said, I love the look of everything you’ve posted here – except the oatmeal. The thought of oats is grossing me out for some reason!

  10. All these meals look awesome!! Taco frittata? Mediterranean stir fry with yogurt sauce? You’ve certainly sparked my attention. 🙂 Instagram definitely has some awesome food combinations! They are one of my favorites to see, along with workouts because they’re usually so inspirational! I just joined instagram a couple weeks ago, but I’m already kind of addicted. 😉

  11. IG does indeed make me hungry and it’s so enjoyable to see what interesting and unique items people are trying out there! It’s a quick way to see all of these things too… like with blogs you can of course read about the tasty items but IG is instant 🙂 That stir fry with the yogurt sauce intrigues me the most here… Mediterranean food when done correctly, is just so delicious!

  12. I’d say these eats are inspiring. I don’t even think I could pick just one, although the roasted veggies, the omelet, and the chickpea stew are all screaming my name. Thanks for sharing.
I like a bit of everything on Instagram…food, life, flowers, pets, #publicbananas 🙂
