A ball of fun

I’m just going to put it out there: Jet lag is a bitch…at least from west to east!  Although I landed in Mumbai feeling exhausted on Wednesday morning, I managed to fight the urge to snooze during the day.  That meant unpacking immediately; catching up on work; saying my “hellos” to friends/family; running a few errands…basically anything I could do to keep busy and avoid succumbing to the drowsiness.  Although I managed to get plenty done by the evening, I felt wide awake by the time I got into bed…typical.

Not to sound like a total Cranky Cathy but when my sleep is out of whack, my appetite tends to follow suit…and I seem to constantly crave sugar & chocolate.  Speaking of chocolate, check out this new-to-me Reese’s product I stumbled upon in the Dubai airport:

Reese SticksSource

As a huge fan of both Kit Kat & the peanut butter/chocolate combo, I had to buy a packet…and a packet of Reeses cups in case these sticks don’t live up ;).  I tried a stick last night & put it this way: Reese’s can clearly do no wrong! Because I’m all kinds of fun when I’m sleep-deprived, cranky, and hungry, I’m going to leave you with something more positive i.e. images that made me laugh during the week:

Don’t even try to tell me that you can’t relate with at least half of ‘em ;)!

What helps you fight insomnia/jet lag?

Do you notice a correlation with lack of sleep & your appetite?

  1. I’m glad to hear that you’re home safe, Khushboo… but less glad to hear that you’re dealing with some serious jet lag. I haven’t had to deal with any lag in a while, but my sleeping has been kind of off for a few weeks and I can -definitely- relate to the whole wonky appetite thing. Not only do I end up feeling super snacky on those days where I feel more tired, but all I want to eat is sugar and carbs. I hope that you get some rest soon!

  2. I haven’t ever had to deal with bad jet lag (the most I’ve ever experienced in a 1 hour time difference), but I’ve got plenty of experience with insomnia. 😛 And I definitely agree that messed up sleep = messed up appetite = give me ALL the sugar. Haha. I hope you get over your jet lag soon!

  3. Love all the images – thank you for a Hilarious start to the weekend! I think I can relate to more than half of them ;)!
For me there most definitely is a correlation between my sleep and appetitie! The less sleep I get, the more hungry I am … but if I am sleep deprived and stressed – the hunger dissapears…bah…I don’t quite understand that part. Kudos to you on trying to keep busy to get back to your regular sleep sched – I would have taken a short nap if not slept right thru (Yes, I speak from experience).
And those Reeses sticks?!?!?! WOA – I need to peruse the shelves at the store this weekend! Those are just all kinds of yumsiferous to me!

    1. Oooh lemme know if you get your hands on Reeses Sticks- they are oh so delicious…or should I say yumsiferous 😉

  4. Glad you are home safe!
Oh, and don’t tell me about jetlag. I had the worst when I came back from the US. I stayed awake until 3am, NO CHANCE to catch some sleep. And all I want is bread and chocolate if I don’t sleep enough.
Hope your body adapts quick! Happy Weekend!

  5. At least you’re keeping yourself smiling through your jet lag 😉 I haven’t done any travel with more than an hour or two time difference in the last several years, so I haven’t experienced anything major in terms of jet lag that I can remember. But definitely on the eat-all-the-sugar when I’m tired and haven’t gotten enough sleep. Considering that my sweet tooth is pretty intense on a regular day, it is BAD when I’m tired. I haven’t tried the Reese’s sticks, but I think that they’d be too much like Kit Kats for me, which are one of the few chocolate bars that I actually don’t like.

  6. Im cracking up at those funny images. I’m one of those people who sulks all day if I dont get my sleep.. Im a nightmare to be around! and I eat all the wrong things. Its all out of whack.. I’m scared of being sleep deprived. I just remind myself to drink lots of water – it some how helps me a little.

  7. “Reese’s can do no wrong” -> the truest words ever. 😉 I seriously need to find that candy!!!
And love all the images! A bit of humor is the best way to start the weekend. I hope the jet lag goes away quickly! Good job trying to stay up – I always try to do that but inevitably fail and end up dead asleep in a face plant on my bed. 😉

  8. Ahhhh JETLAG is the WORST. When I travel overseas, I do a fair bit of research when booking flights to book either overnight or during the day ones so the country I was flying into, I would be all set. What has worked for me was taking melatonin and (this might sound strange) but eating plain pasta or plain potatoes when you land.

I lov kitkats and I love reeces, so that combination = heaven.

    1. That’s really interesting about the effects on jet lag of plain pasta & potatoes- will have to give it a shot next time!

  9. sorry K, can’t help you on this one. I usually take the virgin atlantic flight from US to India and it lands at 11:30 AM… I usually pass out 3 hours later. I prefer flights that land at night, it’s so much easier to function. Yeah jokes about PMS are not funny! 🙂

  10. Exercise totally makes the jet lag go away! I immediately get myself outside for a run / walk after landing. I always feel better and adjust easier.

    Hope that helps!

  11. Since I work nights I know a thing or two OR TWENTY about how much a lack of sleep can mess your body up! I almost always start craving cookies and chocolate whenever I’m running on fumes…all I’ve got to say is in those cases where I CAN’T go to sleep (or down a box of cookies), thank GOD for the cookie dough Quest bars! Lol

I can’t believe I’ve never tried the Reese’s sticks since peanut butter cups have always been my favorite! I’m not usually a fan of Butterfingers, but the Butterfinger crisps (that are also in stick form) are amazing! And the insides don’t get all stuck in your teeth like they do with the candy bar!

Love that first ecard! I always have to do “the test” when I’m shopping for heels…can I walk a straight line without looking like Barbie (aka, can I actually bend my knees when I walk!) Hahaha!
