Friday Favorites: 06/14

Happy weekend, guys!  It’s pouring outside as I’m posting this and I’m extremely glad to be indoors right now…almost as glad as I am that it’s Friday.  Aside from snuggling under the covers with a cuppa tea while it’s thundering outside, here are some other favorites of mine from the week:

  • I’m taking a page out of Monday’s post and snacking on local & seasonal foods like Freshly Roasted Corn.  As much as I wish on-the-go snacks like KIND bars, fro yo and mini plates of sushi were available in Mumbai, I can’t really complain when I have these available on various street corners across the city.  With just a sprinkle of lemon juice, garam masala seasoning and salt, snacking has been so messy fresh!

  • Whether you’re having a crap day and need a smile or just want another reason to smile, this link on The 30 Happiest Facts of All Time will do trick.  Two of my favorites listed are:
    • Baby puffins are called ‘pufflings’
    • The voice of Mickey Mouse (Wayne Allwine) and the voice of Minnie Mouse (Russi Taylor)  got married in real life

Mickey

  • On the chocolate front, I may or may not have struck gold on my birthday.  My cousin Malika knows I’m a big fan of dark chocolate, preferably Lindt, and hooked me up big time with a number of different varieties. Thoughtful or what? I’m still eating my way through the stash but I think I have a new favorite which is even better Lindt Sea Salt: Lindt Madagascar.  If you’ve ever tried those red Lindor balls, this flavor tastes like a solid bar of the gooey interior…just sayin’!

  • I go through phases with Bollywood movies and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has gotten me back on the bandwagon.  I’m by no means a movie critic but it ticked all the boxes of a good Hindi film for me:
    1. Cute story? Check
    2. Scenic locations? Check
    3. Catchy soundtrack? Check
    4. Decent amount of eye candy? Triple check… Ranbir gets 2 checks 😉

What’s a favorite from your week?

What have you been snacking on lately?

  1. That corn looks so delcious! Love local street food! Here we get farinata (chickpea flour pancake), focaccia with varying toppings, panelle (polenta chips), pastizzi (the spinach and ricotta variety are a must try- it’s a type of Maltese pastry) there are a lot more adventurous things like spleen sandwiches too- I would steer clear of those though lol 😉 Thanks for that wonderful list of happy facts! I’ve been a bit down today- some stress has really built up in my life and I just reached a breaking point- but a good cry helped- and a happy list helps too. Oh my word- a solid big block of lindnor ball!! I think that may be heaven! I’m keeping my eyes out for that 😉 Such a good looking stash of chocolate all round- envious 🙂 I love Bollywood films- they are so colourful and vibrant, I really want to try Bollywood dancing sometime! A favourite this week has been Nigella lawsons caramel croissant pudding I made with Lucas- it puffs up and becomes light and heavenly- it’s a croissant bread and butter pudding- I swapped the bourbon for Marsala, it was good- very good. Hope you have a wonderful weekend Khushboo, Xo Sophia

    1. Ah hope your day ended up being much better than it started, Sophia! That caramel croissant pudding sounds all kinds of delicious..YUM!

  2. That’s so awesome you can get roasted corn as a snack! Lately I’ve been snacking on Greek yogurt with chopped mango, Oskri fig and dark chocolate bars, and cookies from work.

Also that is a serious stash of chocolate there! I love the Lindt sea salt bars, but I haven’t tried the Madagascar one yet, so apparently I need to do that.

One of my favourites from the week: local strawberries!!!

  3. I love that happy fact list! Definitely the perfect way to start out the weekend. The one about smiling being a natural human reaction and window cleaners dressing up as superheroes when they work on children’s hospitals? Totally melts my heart.

This probably isn’t surprising in the least, but I’ve been snacking on a lot of cereal, yogurt, and fruit lately. I’m pretty sure those things will always be among my top snack foods, and when you throw some chocolate and homemade treats in there? I’m in heaven.

    Happy Friday, Khushboo!

  4. That roasted corn looks sooo good! I’m pretty sure roasted is the absolute best way you can eat corn. I would buy a BBQ just for that purpose (although obviously I’d use it for a bunch of other stuff too…I kind of really want BBQ chicken).

And holy chocolate batman…I thought my stash was impressive! I’ve only tried a couple of the Lindt varieties, but you have me convinced I need to pick up one of the Madagascar ones.
Lately my snacks have been protein bars, Greek yogurt with nuts or nut butter, microwave pumpkin mug cakes, and chocolate….and maybe some jellybeans from the work jellybean stash 😉

    1. Have you ever tried marshmallow-flavored jellybeans? I’m not usually a jellybean fan but those are the exception!!

  5. i love roasted corns. Missy you need to share that chocolate stash seems like you got 2 weeks worth of supply right there 🙂 I dont have anything exciting from the week except that I will be waking up in Boston tomorrow. Have a great weekend

  6. Hahah ohh haaay eye candy in that movie!! HA YES!! OH my gosh that chocolate stock pile! I NEED THAT! I am swooning over the fact that Mickey and Minnie got married..best story ever. Happy weekend!

      1. Um, this is where I prove my status as a hopeless Londoner…. I’ve never been to Selfridges!! Funnily enough I went to the one in Birmingham but not London. I’m hopefully going to Patty and Bun this weekend, which is right by Selfridges so I’ll have to pop in. I just hate department stores so have no urge to go!

        1. WHAAAAAAAAAT- you are hopeless indeed! Selfridges is almost like my second home in London! I promise it’s worth venturing into 🙂

  7. You aren’t missing much when it comes to froyo and even the Kind bars. I’d rather have that street corn and chocolate supply any day. Your cousin is awesome.
Today I snacked pretty much all day. I had a piece of coffee cake this morning, a kale smoothie later on, then some cherries, a piece or two of cheese, trail mix, and olives. The nicer the weather, the lighter and snacky-er my meals get.

    1. I’m definitely the same during the hotter months- light meals throughout the day are much more appealing 🙂

  8. Roasted/grilled corn is the BEST!!! I love how it almost gets chewy 🙂 I need to find some good corn to grill now!
The happy list is so cute. I especially giggled at the last one about pushing a door that says pull – not that I’ve ever done that or anything 😉 haha, not true of course. If I hadn’t done it multiple times, I wouldn’t find it amusing lol.
And that chocolate stash!! I need to find the Madagascar bar. Those red Lindor balls are one of my favorites.

    1. Hahah I think we’ve all done the ‘pushing instead of pulling’ at least once…even when the font is excessively large 😉

  9. Fresh roasted corn on the cob beats KIND bars and to-go sushi plates ANY day! I sure wish we had access to such deliciousness on our streets in the States. The only time I get corn on the cob is during the summer at barbecues or fairs (there are often stands that sell it). When I lived abroad in Mexico, I’d stop for corn near every afternoon and never grew tired of it. There it’s common to dust it with chipotle powder, crema and cotija cheese. It’s all sorts of amazing!

I had no idea about Minnie and Mickey! That’s definitely smile-inducing. 🙂 Speaking of…I’d be grinning from ear to ear if I’d received that Lindt stash for my birthday! Holy chocolate heaven! But really? Madagascar is better than Sea Salt?! Positive??! I need to get my hands on one of these bars…the hunt begins NOW!

Hope you’re enjoying your weekend, Khushboo! I know I’ve been a bit MIA, but I can’t help but pop in and check on my favorite blogs (that would be yours!) from time to time. Hugs! <3 xoxo

    1. Always nice to receive a comment from you, Sara :)! Hope your weekend is going great! Love the idea of adding chipotle powder and cheese to roasted corn- definitely going to try that out next time! And trust me, you will LOVE Lindt Madagascar!

  10. That’s a whole lot of fantastic chocolate! I am a fan of the Lindt 85%.

These days I’ve been snacking on scones…can’t get enough while I’m here in London. Already envious of your upcoming trip!

  11. I don’t even like corn on the cob, and that STILL looks so delicious! Love that you can buy it right on the streets! I’d totally give up granola bars for that as an option. But maybe not froyo 😉
