Complete 180

Hey guys!  How’s your week? I feel like my workouts and food have done a complete 180 in the past week.  I’ve mentioned my dislike towards Indian food several times in the past, but lately I’ve been feeling it.  It’s a bit like when I started eating beef in December- the craving popped up out of nowhere.  Although it feels foreign to ask my mom to make me oat lolis, poha or channa, I’m just embracing it while it lasts.  Since Saturday 4 of my meals have voluntarily been Indian, including Swati Snacks for dinner last night:

As for workouts, I have always been more of a hermit exerciser- I like to go in, do my thing, and leave.  My gym membership expired last week and although I miss being able to work out according to my own schedule (as opposed to class timings), part of me is relieved to take a much-needed break from that environment.  Since going for runs/walks outside are now a no-no because of the monsoons, I’ve been testing out various classes at a nearby studio. I tried out Hot Boot Camp yesterday, which was as bad ass as it sounds. I like that the class used a lot of equipment (e.g. cones, medicine balls, resistance bands, fitness balls) & exercises (e.g. plyometrics) that I would never turn to during a solo workout.  I’m definitely feeling it today & especially as the hour flew by, I plan on going back soon!

Fitness & food ruts – you are dead to me :)!

Tried any new food/workout lately? Do share….

  1. I’ve fallen off the routine many times and feel new when trying to go back to the same routine…. mostly detest all kinds of ruts and exercising the same way has become boring too… got to get new ways to shake-up and tone too… good luck with new beginnings 🙂

    1. I can’t recommend trying a new exercise out to bust out of the rut…even changing up your goals can make a world of difference 🙂

  2. Indian food is wonderful- If your mamma was available to cook for me I would be so happy 🙂 that dosa looks incredible! My favourite indian dishes are mataar paneer, saag paneer and Dahl… And I adore naan and roti! Your workouts sound so fun and the social aspect must have great energy 🙂 I’ve been introduced and seduced by vegemite! Lucas made me some vegemite with lots of butter on fresh thick white ciabatta!! So good 🙂 try it some time please lol just make sure it’s lightly toasted bread- lots of butter and a thin discreet dash of vegemite- it’s beyond delicious lol! Lucas was so proud I liked it- I think I’ll fit right in with the locals if I visit down-under. Ooh and I found out I can still cartwheel like a pro when I was playing on the beach recently. Hope you have a great rest if the week Khushboo xo Sophia

    1. Ah that’s so awesome you can still cartwheel. I was actually just thinking of cartwheels today as it’s never been a move I could do- perhaps a new goal to work towards? I’m yet to try vegemite but I sure will when I next get a chance 🙂

  3. I just started eating Indian food in the past few months and I’m a fan! Lentil dal is my favourite so far.

That bootcamp class sounds really good – I love it when there’s lots of variety! I haven’t really tried anything new on the fitness front lately. I’ve tried a few of the Fitnessista’s summer shape up workouts, but I find they are really leg heavy so I have to modify them. 😛

  4. Food and fitness GROOVES are still very much alive to me 😛 But I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that I’ve had some other things going on in life, so food has pretty much been put on the backburner. I don’t even notice it that much until I come to the blog world and see people getting all fancy and creative with their food and fitness. Maaaaybe that might just be the inspiration I need to start grooving to something else 😉 TIme will tell.

    1. Eh you know I’m a fan of the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach- so long as you’re enjoying what you eat, keep eating and repeating 😉

  5. Hot boot camp? Boot camp already sounds intense, but then you throw hot in there? Intriguing. And I’m glad you’re jumping on the Indian food bandwagon, it’s been too long since I’ve had it! May have to put some chicken korma or something on the meal plan for next week…
Same old, same old when it comes to fitness these days, but I am trying a few new things in regards to food, so at least there’s that! :-p

    1. 1 out of 2 sounds good to me :)! And as shameful as it is to admit, I’ve still never tried chicken korma!

  6. When did you say I could come over to have your mum cook for me? I do like Indian cuisine quite a bit but never had the pleasure of trying truly authentic dishes. What are some of your favourite vegetarian dishes that don’t require too many fancy ingredients? Maybe I can try cooking some myself …
While I currently can’t work out due to an injury taking longer to heal than expected I’d be very interested in trying new workouts. I’m not sure we have boot camp classes around here but it sounds intense.

    1. I’m a big fan of channa masala, daal and oat lolis. I’ll definitely put up some recipes soon as I learn how to make them 🙂

  7. I guess you could say I am a hermit too..I love my gym and I love just getting in there and taking my class and heading home!! I do like the idea of trying new things though! Indian food is so good..it’s been SO long since I have had some!

    1. As much as I’m enjoying the motivation that comes with group classes, it’s nice to zone out in solo workouts 🙂

  8. i will take dosa anytime of the day 🙂 as for the workout I am trying to stay fit entertaining myself in between gym and outside. Foodwise – my goal is to tackle everything on my pinboard (which obviously is not going to happen anytime soon)

  9. Mmmm south indian food is delicious! I’m with you on not being a big fan of indian food though, I just don’t know why because it should be in our blood 😉 Hot boot camp sounds tortuous to me, so i’m glad you had fun ! Loll whilst you’re trying different classes, you must try zumba!

    1. The studio I’ve been going to actually offers zumba so I might just have to now, based on your recommendation 🙂

  10. I’m still working on getting out of that fitness rut myself, but yes, new classes definitely help! Although hot boot camp? You ARE bad ass. And I LOVE that you’re enjoying Indian food! Ohhh, it’s my favorite–I’m looking forward to lots of pictures here to drool over 😉

  11. Hot boot camp sounds like a blast! The class I went to the other day was an hour too, it kicked my butt with tons of plyo moves and lunges, burpees, squats, etc. We used a step, and sets of dumbbells. It would’ve been fun to incorporate resistance bands and medicine balls and stuff too though!

    1. The class you tried out sounds great too- love leaving feeling like I’ve worked so many body parts in one shot 🙂

  12. OMG.. one Indian food I love is DOSAS! Love South Indian food so much. What have I eaten lately that’s new? I bought these Trader Joe coconut chips I blogged about a couple weeks ago, they are just so tasty.

  13. Does is my favorite…seriously. I can’t get enough of it! I’m thinking that I need to find a good dosa place here in London. Suggestions?

    1. Hmm not too sure about dosas but Tiffinbites is meant to have fab Indian food. There are several branches around London, including one in Westfield Shopping Centre!
