Friday Favorites: 26/04

I love writing Friday Favorite posts because I get to share about a whole bunch of things which I’m loving in one shot.  Because it’s been exactly a month since my last one, I think it’s about time to bring it back:

  • My buddy (and avid blog reader 🙂 ) Suchita brought me back several packets of Lentil Curls from Marks & Spencer in London.  I have only tried the Sour Cream & Chilli flavor but it’s safe to say that I’m addicted.  Although lentils don’t really scream “chips”, I might even prefer these to their potato counterpart!

  • A couple of weeks ago I attended a pop-up event called The Art of Comfort Food.  Neither I or my friends knew what to expect, but we were sold when we read the description: We will be serving comfort food from around the world, tapas style, alongside participatory art installations and short videos. And of course, there will be plenty of wine and sangria to go around.  It ended up being such a fun (and different) evening and I especially loved their sangria mason jars.  How much do these scream “Pinterest”:

  • As much as I love running to music, I switched it up this week with a podcast of The Jillian Michaels Show.  I downloaded a few from iTunes and find her so engaging yet hilarious to listen to.  Pardon the lack of eloquent phrasing, but Jillian “keeps it real” with her approach to healthy living.  And if you’re not interested in fitness or nutrition, she discusses various other topics too.

  • This week must have been my lucky week because I ended up with not 1, but 2 near-empty jars of peanut butter.  Rather than use either as an oatmeal or overnight oats vehicle, I went down the yogurt mess route with both jars:

No peanut butter goes to waste…ever

  • Jeans are my least favorite item of clothing to buy: either the legs are too big or the waist is too small.  This J Brand 835 Mid Rise Capri in Black fits like a glove and the twill fabric makes them ideal to wear in the heat.  I plan on stocking up on other colors because you know what they I say: find a pair of jeans that fit & buy it in every color ;)!

  1. Wow, that’s an impressively empty jar of peanut butter right there haha. I should try the yogurt mess option, although I do love overnight oats…mmm. I need to download some Jillian podcasts! Seriously gotta do that this weekend.

  2. I adore Jillian Michaels podcasts! I wasn’t a huge fan of hers until I started listening to them…she seems really approachable and down to earth in real life and has a great approach to healthy living.

I got through one peanut butter jar this week…time to restock 😉
Go-to snacks right now: Greek yogurt and cereal, pretzels and everything I can dip them into. Keeping me happy 😉

  3. When I picked up a packet they felt weightless so I assumed they’d be really unfilling – they are super filling and i love how they aren’t rice-cakey (like all low fat snacks) based, you actually feel like you’re eating crisps. I loved them, and they were actually very chilli. Bought a multi-pack of 5. Have you tried the wholegrain honey & bbq snacks, they are also amazing.

I just had a choppd salad with brown rice, brocolli, steamed tofu, grean beans and edamame with sesame soy sauce. i hope you’re impressed x

    1. Yay so glad you liked them…and mate I’m definitely coming to meet you for lunch when I’m there in summer- that comb sounds ah-mazing! 🙂

  4. I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about the Jillian Michaels podcasts but I still haven’t listened to any. I might have to give them a go for when I want to go on some of my longer walks, though, because I’m getting a little bit bored with the music that I have on my playlist right now. And I love J Brand jeans! I just wish they weren’t so expensive 😕 Still… a good pair of jeans can totally make an outfit, and nevermind the confidence you get when something fits just right. So yeah… definitely worth it 😀

    1. It’s only logical to buy them, expensive or not – you can’t put a price on confidence, right ;)…or at least that’s how I justify it haha!

  5. i have been meaning to make some sangria lately (so much).. and thanks for new workout music suggestions because music tends to get boring after a while. never heard her podcast but surely will give it a try 🙂 my favorite from this week- hmmm making homemade sushi felt like a great accomplishment

  6. Finding a good pair of jeans is like searching for a needle in a hay stack, it’s nearly impossible! With that said, when you DO find a pair..IT’s like heaven!! So exciting! HA! I love Jillian, she just cracks me up! I’ll have to check out her podcasts.

  7. *gasp* i have 2 near empty nutella jars and i was planning on just throwing them away (i know, i know) but i think i’ll stuff it with oatmeal or greek yogurt like you suggested!

    1. Say whaaaat- near-empty jars of Nutella may be even better than near-empty PB jars…don’t even think of throwing them away 🙂

  8. Sable (Squat Like A Lady)

I may need to go buy 8 pair of those capris RIGHT NOW. They look like they have a great fit! (:

In other news, I recently tried yogurt-in-a-jar (as opposed to oats) and I am in loooovveeeeeee!

  9. I love your jean advice :P! Those lentil curls look pretty awesome. Do they have a salt and vinegar flavor? I would be all for that one :D!

  10. Aw man, lentil chips are so good, makes me bummed that my stomach doesn’t agree! And oh my gosh, I NEED to go jeans shopping–I definitely stock up when I find a good pair/style, but that also means they all wear out at the same time! Whoops.

  11. Marks and Spencer food halls were practically my second home while I was interning in London during college! I’d grab one of their “light meals for lunch nearly every day because they were easy and pretty tasty (considering that they came pre-packaged). I enjoyed the snacks equally as much (especially the potato chips and little pudding pots!), so I’m sure I’d enjoy the lentil curls, too. Sour cream and chili sounds like a Mexican-inspired combination I’d love. 🙂

Sangria served in a mason jar is an adorable idea–and SO Pinterest. I’ll have to keep them in mind for parties this summer. And speaking of jars, you were certainly a lucky girl this week, getting to enjoy two yogurt-in-a-jar breakfasts! YIAJ sounds delicious…I think I’ll give it a try in a few days because I’m nearing the end of a jar myself. 🙂

Love the black capris! I do the same with jeans/pants–when I find a style I like, I buy several pairs in different colors. Well-fitted pants are hard to come by, so you have to take advantage of a good discovery while you can!

    Happy Friday, my dear! xoxoxo

    1. Agreed about M & S meals- although “lighter” options can taste pretty hit or miss, their meals always live up tho the description…especially their chocolate mousse pots! 🙂

  12. first, you look so pretty in your new profile pic. And I love J BRAND!!! OMG, they fit perfectly… I would only buy them in white and denim and black, for colors I go to Zara and Mango. 🙂 Mason jars are so cute. This week, you saw my blog, my cakecup. lol.

    1. Thank you SO much, Nisha :)! Agreed about buying J Brand in neutral colors and saving the seasonal picks for Zara & Mango- smart shopping 😉

  13. I love the Sangria mason jars. I actually have a bunch because I use them for my smoothies and juices, so now all I need is sangria. Ha, ha.
And if you can find jeans that fit perfectly, you better buy them in every color. Perfect fitting jeans is almost a myth.
