All kinds of random

Hey guys!  How was your weekend?  It seems like many of you really do enjoy Indian food.  Although I certainly don’t share your sentiments, I can’t help but to feel proud every time a non-Indian someone says they love Indian food.   As for favorite cuisines, I indulged in mine over the weekend with some Japanese fare at a new restaurant here called Kofuku.  If you’re living in Bombay, try this place NOW!  Along with a very authentic ambiance, the food was out-of-this-world yum….so yum that between all the sushi, miso salmon, yellowtail carpaccio, chicken teppanyaki rice, and various salads, I only managed to snap one photo:

Sometimes digging in sounds a lot better than whipping out my iPhone to capture the moment.  Along with dinner, dessert went unpictured too.  I’m pretty sure you can either use your imagination or Google “a scoop of Baskin-Robbins Mint Choc Chip” …or I can do it for you:

baskin

Is it weird that depending on the place/brand of ice cream, my flavor preference changes?  For example:

  • Ben & Jerry’s: Choc Chip Cookie Dough
  • Amul, Wall’s, or Carte D’or: Vanilla
  • Baskin-Robbins: Mint Choc Chip, Gold Medal Ribbon or Jamoca
  • Häagen Daaz or Blue Bunny: Cookies ‘n’ Cream

Speaking of cookies, do you say biscuits or cookies?  If this chart is anything to go by, I’m more British than I thought:

Biscuits, sweet, lift, pyjamas, jelly, petrol, trainers, zip, and tyre but can, chips, diaper, overalls, and eraser.  Consider my indecisive lingo a result of attending an American school for 18 years and living in England for 8 years.

Sushi with friends, ice cream, smile-inducing photos…I really am all about the random little things today, more so than usual.  I might as well add another one to the list : Finding a pair of jeans you forgot you owned. The only thing which beats that is finding a pair of jeans you forgot you owned which fits even better than you remembered.  Let’s just say that I won’t be hopping on the scales any time soon ;).

Vacation or holiday? Pants or trousers? Flashlight or torch? Holiday, trousers and flashlight

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?

  1. Salmon, avocado and tuna?! That is like the perfect sushi roll right there!

I say both holiday and vacation, pants, and flashlight.

Hmm my favourite ice cream flavour is definitely the candy cane chocolate chunk ice cream I buy every Christmas season. But my favourite flavour that is available year round is cookies ‘n cream!

  2. Aww I’m not british at all! Which is strange considering that Canada has such close ties with them; but I say vacation, pants, and flashlight. I remember someone asked me to pass the torch once and I thought they were going all medieval on me :lol As for favorite ice cream flavor, I’m going to have to be kind of boring on this one and say vanilla. Some of this fancier flavors are delicious, but you can never go wrong with a good vanila – and it’s the perfect base for all sorts of toppings!

    1. Hahah about the medieval bit :)! I wouldn’t call your choice of vanilla ‘boring’…classic if you ask me ;)!

  3. Holidays, pants and torch! I think we are more British inspired in Australia, but we do say something’s differently! Love that you like different flavored depending on which store your at. It makes me think I need to go eat more ice cream and figure out my preferences!!!

  4. I don’t think I’m British at all…the only British ones I got were ‘tap’ and ‘curtains’. I’ going to blame proximity on that one :-p

I don’t think I’ve ever had baskin robbins ice cream before…at least, not in memory. I know there’s one about a 5 minute drive away from me, so I may have to change that this summer. I love how you have different flavour preferences depending on where you are! For my favourites, I would have to say chocolate chip cookie dough. Or peanut butter chocolate, if they have it.

  5. aww i was at baskin robins yesterday and I had gold medal ribbon flavour 🙂 apparently my mom had a lot of baskin robins when she was pregnant with me, maybe thats why I love it!

  6. Love random posts! Our organization is actually based out of the UK, so I’m definitely going to share that chart with my co-workers! I think they’ll get a kick out of it! Thanks for the Monday morning laugh 🙂

  7. We should go for sushi next time you’re in London – it’s my fave!

Hmm well I’m mostly British, although I have started using more Americanisms thanks to Rob. The list made me chuckle because we’ve had a number of confused moments trying to figure out what the other person was talking about – rubber, anyone? But seriously, who says maize??? I’ve never heard anyone call it anything other than corn! And I will always refuse to call it fall. It is autumn, dammit!

    1. Hahah the idea of calling an eraser “rubber” sounds plain wrong! And yes we are defo getting sushi when I’m there next (end June)! 🙂

  8. Loved that chart 🙂 Its so weird how I learned British English for almost 18 years and then American English in USA (7 years), I use almost everything American words now. I love anything with chocolate and mint together 🙂 Have a great Monday.

  9. I say cookies!! 🙂 According to that chart, I am pretty darn American! 😉

I think it is pretty much impossible for me to pick just one flavor of ice cream that is my favorite. I love birthday cake ice cream and pretty much anything that involves chocolate or peanut butter. You really cannot go wrong with a simple vanilla, too!

  10. Yes! You SHOULD take some pride in the awesomeness of Indian food, even if it isn’t a personal fave 🙂 I’m not a huge sushi fan (yeah, I feel like I’m the only one), but that plate? Still looks delicious! I used to be the biggest mint choco chip ice cream fan, but it HAD to be green or I didn’t approve, haha. I don’t know what my current favorite ice cream flavor is! I think that means I need to do some experimenting…as soon as it’s above freezing here…

  11. OMG, I’m like 99% American, but I really wanna be British! 🙂 The only thing that was off was “tap”. Favorite Ice Cream … I noticed you said B&J Choco Chip Cookie Dough, please try the Haagen Daaz version of CCCD.. it is amazing. Much better. I tried B&J and it isn’t the same. Another brand of ice-cream I love is Talenti – it is from Italy that has become popular here, the Sea salt caramel and Tahitian vanilla bean are to die for… and it is 30% less fat than ice cream, it is gelato, and it is all natural. Can’t beat it. There is my sales pitch! 🙂

    1. Ohh gelato is in a league of its own! I usually go for the hazelnut flavor but if sea salt caramel or Tahitian vanilla bean were an option, hazelnut wouldn’t stand a chance ;)!

  12. I say a lot of those British forms (queue, sellotape, rubbish, curtain, tin) but refer to cookies as biscuits if their British/Indian in origin. Like those Britannia biscuits :P.

  13. Holla for the jean score. I love it when that happens. My favorite Baskin Robbins flavor is Pralines and Pecan, although Mint Chocolate Chip is in my top three….along with butter pecan, of course.
It sounds like you had a pretty great weekend.

  14. Funny, I use a lot of those things interchangeably like drapes/curtains, tap/faucet, candy/sweet, fall/autumn. Being from Canada most of our colloquialisms are more American than British, but our spelling is definitely British.

    1. I love the look of adding in the “u” (e.g. neighboUr, flavoUr) yet I tend to write/type the American way!

  15. I’m so glad you were able to indulge your sushi cravings over the weekend! If the one picture you snapped is any indication, Kofuku serves some pretty incredible sushi. The tuna is absolutely beautiful–so red! 🙂 I’m ready to hop on a plane and meet you there. Lunch date tomorrow?

I love Baskin Robbins! Many of their stores have closed in the US, so I rarely go anymore; in fact, I can’t think of one store near me. So sad because it was my favorite ice cream shop when I was young. My go-to flavor was German chocolate cake, which was wonderful in every possible way. Think chocolate ice cream, cake pieces, fudge and coconut. Mmm. I think they discontinued it when I was 10, so after that, I was all about cookie dough or jamoca almond fudge. Now, I tend to go for vanilla-based flavors–preferably those with peanut butter swirls, if available! 🙂

I love the British/American English infographic! I’m 100% American, but I often swap British words for fun. After returning from a summer semester in London, I actually caught myself unintentionally calling cookies “biscuits” a couple of times. 🙂

    1. I’m almost always a vanilla-based girl but German Chocolate Cake might have to be an exception…er I need to hund some down ASAP!

  16. Mmmm, sushi is my favorite! I had some last week…it had been nearly THREE WEEKS since my last time! I know, pure craziness!

Vacation, Pants, Flashlight…I’m VERY American…tho, I do say “curtains” 😉

Favorite ice cream flavor: cookie dough Favorite Gelato flavor: Wildberry Lavender (had it for the first time last month…omg, it tastes like Fruity Pebbles!) Favorite FRO-YO flavor: Taro Favorite ice cream flavor to BUY AT HOME: Vanilla! And then I go crazy with the toppings! 😉

  17. That sushi holds everything that I love! Avocado, tuna, and salmon, uhh yeah I would have ordered that with 100% positivity 🙂 That chart is too funny… and I am definitely an American lol, cookies for this girl! Vacation, pants, flashlight haha
Ive never tried cookies and cream Blue Bunny but based on their other flavors, I am fairly sure I would like this one too

    1. As Blue Bunny is not available in Mumbai, please go get some cookies ‘n’ cream and eat for both of us…NOW!! 🙂

  18. Aaaah, I enjoy random posts like this one! Funny how you’re mentioning the differences in British and American English because it’s something I find myself faced with quite often. Having learned British English in school and started reading American blogs sometime in between I’m mixing the vocab up quite often. Regarding the words you asked for I’d even say both for all of them – just rolling with my mood in the very moment I’m using them :D. As long as people know what I’m mean I’m good to go, don’t you think ;)?

  19. Vacation, pants, and flashlight. HAHA what a fun chart. I’m definitely American! I love that you get different ice creams wherever you go. I loveee basic vanilla because you can mix anything into it, but cookie dough, chocolate, and mixed flavors are great too. Mmmm cookie dough…
