Deck the stalls

I’m starting to think that my brother is a wannabe food blogger.  For starters, he seems to message me more pictures of food than he does conversation.  Suddenly he has also become the expert in places where to eat, and his latest recommendation was the Partridges Food Market in Duke of York Square (Sloane Square).

Quoting from the Partridges site, its aim is to “celebrate the diverse and evolving world of fine local British and International foods and offer small producers, start-up businesses, and farmers the chance to share their passion and expertise with the public.”  As its only open on Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm, we made it a point to check it out over the weekend.  From Moroccan cuisine to handmade sushi, French patisseries, gourmet cheeses, vegan specialty breads, Brazilian deli, West Indian food and duck confit sandwiches (to name a few), the variety of stalls was impressively huge.

After walking around for a bit and naturally tasting free samples along the way, I finally settled on the Rainforest Creations stall, which sold organic, raw Caribbean food.  Although the gourmet beef sandwiches smelled pretty darn delicious, a meat-filled dinner the night before had me craving vegetarian fare.

The above box contained a bit of the following:

  • Spinach flan
  • Sweet potato & carrot flan
  • Wild rice salad
  • Chickpea salad
  • Lentil salad
  • Quinoa & broccoli
  • Hummus (possibly the best I’ve ever eaten)

My brother opted for some Jamaican jerk chicken & rice, goat curry, coleslaw and an unpictured coxinha (=Brazilian fried chicken croquette).

Although the pictures don’t do justice, we wiped our boxes clean- everything tasted so fresh & homemade.  I would definitely recommend checking out the Partridges Food Market if you’re in London on a Saturday.  My only recommendations are to go hungry, on a Saturday when the weather is on your side and most importantly, go with someone who enjoys food as much as you do.  And because we couldn’t leave without browsing the Partridges Food Hall, I’ll leave you with a picture of possibly the most genius twist on pies:

What’s the best thing you ate over the weekend?

  1. Spinach flan?! I’ve never been a hue flan fan, but if you add spinach I’m pretty sure I can get on board!

Best thing I ate was cookies. I went to a giant cookie swap last night… let’s just say I need a little break from sugar today. But it was GOOD!

  2. I couldn’t help but laugh at what you said about your brother, because my mom is becoming the same way. Ever since I started blogging again, she’s been texting me pictures of meals that she’s been eating, and it’s just so endearing. Love it! And I think I’d have to say that being able to indulge my crazy cravings for Mexican in Chipotle has been the foodie highlight of my week. I ate there pretty much every day while I was in Vegas, and it’s sad to come back home and realize I won’t be able to do that anymore 🙁

  3. Wow, looks like some amazing tastes right there! I think my Dad is a wannabe food blogger too, he keeps filling up my email inbox with delicious looking food and making me hungry all the time!

  4. This place looks amazing – can’t believe we’ve never heard about it before. Must put this on the list of places I have to visit during my next trip to London. Think I would have a really hard time deciding what to have since everything looks delish! I really can’t even think of the best think I ate over the weekend – will def make up for it in Bangkok with yummy pad thai.

    1. Really missed you on Saturday! We’ll def go in the summer or whenever we next in London together! Jelss that you are going to be in pad thai heaven soon!

  5. Places like Patridges Food Market are one of the many reasons I’m in love with London! It’s a city where cultures merge and are celebrated–especially in the culinary sense. Your box of food from Rainforest Creations looks like a lunch I’d LOVE. I almost always favor meals that feature small tastings of many dishes, rather than those with large portions of one dish. (This is probably the reason I love tapas so much!). I’m also a huge fan of raw foods ; I became a convert after eating one of the best vegan/raw meals of my life at Pure Food & Wine restaurant in NYC last September. If only I could re-create some of those complex dishes in my own kitchen! Your flans, for example, look amazing!

The best thing I ate over the weekend was Christmas cookies–and lots of them! I’m definitely cookied out right now. :-p xoxoxo

    1. This was actually the first proper raw meal I’ve had (salads don’t count) and I’m a huge fan! I actually couldn’t believe that none of the food was cooked which is clearly an indication of how tasty the food was! 🙂

  6. Ugh that pie sounds wrong!!! hahaha

I spend so much time in Sloane Square but I never even realised this market existed because I’m never there on Saturdays! It looks awesome though, I will have to make the trip. See you later today, yay! xoxo

  7. Oh my gosh, that food market sounds like a dream come true! Although I don’t know how I would ever have decided on just one place to stop and eat, haha.

  8. The best hummus you’ve ever eaten?? Man that must have been some awesome hummus! The best thing I ate this weekend was a bowl of split pea soup with some homemade croutons from a fabulous deli near my house 🙂
