Good things come in small packages

As much as I love e-mail, it has sadly more or less eradicated the joy of receiving hand-written letters in the post.   Other than the monthly issues of Zest & Runners’ World which I subscribe to, the only post I tend to receive is bank statements.  Let’s be honest, any reminder that card payments are in fact REAL hardly bring any joy.  To say I was pleasantly surprised when I received something out of the ordinary a couple of weeks ago would be an understatement:

Although I’ve seen these Bounce Natural Energy Balls around in local health stores plenty times, the volume eater in me was always put off by their size.  Small balls or not, these pack quite a punch!  Made from 100% natural & pronounceable ingredients, they’re low-GI and full of healthy fats.  Given how much protein each ball packs in (between 5-14g depending on the flavor), they’re also extremely filling.   I ate one at 5 pm yesterday and it held me perfectly till dinner around 8:30.  It looks like the whole “protein keeps you fuller for longer” notion may actually be true ;)!

Stats & health aside, the make-or-break for me ultimately comes down to taste.  I’ve tried several energy/protein bars in the past and while some taste delicious, others taste like…pardon my French…ass.  So far I’ve tried 3 of their 5 flavors:

  • Peanut Protein Blast
  • Coconut & Macadamia Protein Bliss
  • Almond Protein Hit

The first 2 flavors were amazing: one tasted like a blob of peanut butter whereas the other tasted like the Bounty filling.  I normally love all things almond but the Almond Protein Hit variety tasted like marzipan- blech!

Would I buy these?  Even though I received these samples for free, I actually stocked up on the Peanut & Coconut flavors before heading back to Mumbai.   As much as I’m all about real food, I’m also about convenience, preferably somewhat healthy.

And just for the record, I had to restrain myself from injecting any That’s What She Said jokes during all this “ball’ talk ;).

What new product have you tried (and loved) recently?

    1. I feel so silly for not buying coconut flour in London (didn’t see almond flour)…I kept saying I will but then once I started packing, I realised it probably wasn’t in my best interest for now…i.e. I underestimated how much I shopped!

  1. Haha, I admire your restraint! 😉

I remember buying these Bounce balls when I was living in the UK! They were practically the only energy bar I could find that contained a decent amount of protein, and as such, we became best buds. Peanut butter and I? We were tight. 😉 I also love that these balls contain whey protein instead of soy protein.

My favorite new(ish) bars include Kit’s Organic Bars (by Clif), Luna Fiber bars, and Quest protein bars! All three taste amazing, and all three serve different purposes! 😉

  2. These look soo good especially the peanut butter one! YUM! This is so old news but recently i’ve been having a lot of rice noodles – i never realised how good they are: easy to cook, perfect for stir frys and not so carb heavy! 🙂 Did you enjoy your first Suits episode btw? It only gets better and better!

  3. Ward believes peanut butter’s rich, creamy taste is one of the reasons for its popularity. “I don’t think any food is popular unless it tastes good. Liver is not popular.
