Helping a sista out

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know that I love to run.  Although not every run is rainbows & unicorns, I love the rush of conquering a new distance/speed, the therapeutic effect of each run,  and that overall sense of achievement which every run brings.  I’m yet to sign up for an official race, but I recently decided to partake in a multi-country 10K run to raise funds for an Indian NGO called Tathapi.

This run takes place on Sunday June 24th.  As the monsoons will be in full swing in Mumbai then, I will be running it on the dreadmill treadmill.  Despite our individual location on the day, each participant will be starting the run at the same time (i.e. 5pm in Mumbai, 12.30 pm in London, 7.30 pm in Singapore, etc).

The funds will be used towards a health center called “Anandi” (meaning ‘bliss’ in Hindi) and here’s what it aims to do:

  • Provide different services  related to women’s health, including counseling, preventative, curative, referral, holistic and alternative health services.
  • Provide self-help and rational health skill-building relating to nutrition and wellness, menstruation and contraception, infertility, menopause.
  • Answer women’s queries with technical and scientific information, referral options and peer support
  • Build a library for women and women’s health

Ultimately the goal is to build a women’s health center that brings issues on women and health to the forefront in India.

After switching to shorter, faster runs on the treadmill, running 10K will probably be a mental struggle for me.   However knowing that less than an hour’s worth of running can make a huge difference to fellow females in India is enough motivation for me to get going.

While I would hate to turn my blog into a sales pitch, fortunately this is anything but one.  It’s merely a request to help make Anandi possible by sponsoring me during this 10K run.  Whether it’s $5 or $100, I know my fellow runners and I will be ever so grateful with any amount.  Every contribution will go a long way.  Donations go directly to the charity & can be completely anonymous- all you have to do is click on to this page.

Muchos gracias :)!

  1. This sounds like a great cause! I will check it out. Arrh I have been trying to run lately….oh boy I need to work on my time LOL Thank goodness for my running girlfriend for my internal motivation.

  2. great cause Khushboo.. you represent a new generation in India who are all about woman empowerment. I will look into the details further since I’m at work right now.
And regarding Rao’s, I’m SURE you can find it in Mumbai at some expat “gourmet” grocery store. I didn’t see Rao’s at the Delhi expat stores, but they weren’t gourmet either. Let me know.

  3. That’s great, I love that you are doing this.
Women tend to be underrepresented and invisible in almost every culture, what you are doing is empowering and inspiring!
