Tuesday things

I was going to wait till Friday to put this post up and title it with the clichΓ© “Friday Favorites”, but I thought it was a bit ridiculous to hold off on a post for the sake of alliteration.Β  On that note, here are some things I am loving these last few days:

1) Savory breakfasts: I have always been a sweet-for-breakfast kinda girl but lately I have been craving the salt, especially in the form of eggs.Β  Last week I made a killer fried egg, avocado and cream cheese sandwich on rye which totally hit the spot after my swim.

Exactly what my sandwich looked like

2) Yauatcha: I not usually a fan of eating at Chinese restaurants.Β  The food tends to be overly greasy and often leaves me with an MSG hangover..not fun at all!Β  I went to the new Chinese restaurant Yautacha in Mumbai (originally from London) over the weekend and it was amazing. Also dessert at Chinese restaurants tend to be quite tragic but this place took the cake…or more like ‘served’ the cake :D!Β  I’ll admit that I’m a Chinese food snob: I will only eat at select Chinese restaurants.

3) Quaker Cinnamon Oatmeal Squares: I grew up on Cinnamon Grahams so this is probably the best cereal to enter my cabinets yet!Β  With the perfect amount of sweetness and hint of cinnamon, this cereal is like crack.Β  As much as I want to savor this box and make it last, I give it till Friday max, especially as my mom and sister are both big fans...damn it! πŸ˜‰

4) Quick, yet effective, workouts:Β  During this time of the year, I usually face a huge dilemma: sleep much later than normal and forgo my workout before work or not (#firstworldproblems).Β  Fortunately Parita posted a fabulous 15-minute workout which I foresee being done SEVERAL times in my bedroom over the next 2 weeks because seriously, who doesn’t have 15 minutes to spare?

5) Warm milk: I always thought the whole “milk before bedtime for a peaceful sleep” jazz was a myth.Β  Last week, most of my bedtime snacks involved heated chocolate soy silk and I slept like a baby consistently.Β  Coincidence? I think not!

6) My mom: After I posted a birthday post for my brother and sister, my mom’s words to me were: “I cannot wait till my birthday!”Β  Although I am not devoting an entire post to her, I will say that my siblings and I are probably the luckiest individuals to have her as a mother (yes, I know we all think this about each of our moms).Β  As much as I respect my mom, I am fortunate that we have always had a friend-like relationship.Β  If I can be half the mother she is one day, I know I am doing a great job!Β  Happy birthday to the woman who I drive up the wall and right back down on a daily basis, and who makes my life what it is!Β  Admit it Mummy, you enjoy the ride :).

What are you loving lately?

  4. I love a lot of the same things you do.
I love short strength work out, because you can see the results and it’s not too demanding that I can keep doing it regularly.
I love the same crunchy oatmeal squares!
And I don’t think I can live without eggs πŸ™‚
And what do we do without mothers..? We would be lost πŸ˜‰

  5. I love oatmeal squares as well! I can’t buy them because I think I’d eat them all in a day. They are most likely a trigger food for me. πŸ™
Right now I’m loving Christmas. So unoriginal I know. That and warm weather. We usually have snow this time of year, and so far it has stayed away. I’m looking forward to a brown Christmas (instead of white)!
I have to tell you that I just Googled Mumbai since I know nothing about it. What a neat place you live!

  6. what a great list! I have always wanted to try Yautacha when i was in london but never managed to. i remember some uni mates raving about it, i guess it will have to wait until im in london in 2012. i definitely believe in a glass of warm milk before bed- it helps me sleep too and it is meant to release serotonin which makes you calm and happy πŸ™‚

  7. I normally fall into the oatmeal monotony in the morning and somedays when I eat a savory breakfast it totally surprises me.

Mums are definitely the best, they put up with all our eccentricities!!

  8. I love savory breakfasts! I cannot eat pancakes, waffles, sweet crepes at all but give me some tofu scramble and I’ll eat it for all 3 meals! And … Happy Birthday to your mom!!!

Lately I’m loving watching the snow from my heated room πŸ™‚

  9. Loved your favorites of the week, especially the one about your mother. My mum’s in India at the moment, and I must say I miss her although she is the one who drives me NUTS with her food (eat this and eat that). That sandwich looks incredibly tasty. And when I was little we used to drink warm milk before bed, think about it, babies do that right before bedtime.

And we need to figure out when you were in Nigeria – SUCH A SMALL WORLD! can’t believe this. πŸ™‚

  10. I LOVE savory breakfasts! I actually will have a savory breakfast meal at any time of the day. I love eggs, bacons and all that glory so much! Short & effective workouts are what its all about – especially when we can get so busy! I am REALLY loving the cooler weather and the fact that it SNOWED in the mountains over here this weekend. It really put me in the Christmas spirit!

  11. I used to make a similar sandwich in college, soooooo delish!!! play on a BLT it was a ‘TLE (turkey, lettuce, egg)’. Instead of bacon, you fry turkey slices, put lettuce and an egg sunny side up (so the yolk becomes like a sauce)! SOOOOOOOO GOOD! and then i wonder where my freshman 15 came from πŸ™‚

you must try on your cheat day! xxx

  12. Maneka Chotirmall

The sandwich looks insane and so does the oatmeal squares-wish they would sell in Mumbai. Currently I’m loving oranges and following “Laughbook” on Twitter πŸ™‚ It’s hilarious!

  13. The sweet versus savory breakfast can be a vicious circle. True story: We’d go out for breakfast and order pancakes. Then, after pancakes we’d need something salty. Then, the need for some dessert would appear again. Now, we always order omelets and a order of pancakes or french toast for the table to avoid the inevitable cravings.
Warm milk – I avoided it like the plague as a little girl, only ice cold milk worked. But now I realize just how soothing a warm cup of milk can be!
