Attitude of Gratitude

As cliché as this post is, I could not help but reflect upon some of the things I am thankful for on Thanksgiving.  As much as I would love to list out everything, this is a post and not a memoir so I’m going to try and keep it short & sweet:

My family: Yeah I know, this is a given but it has to be said one more time :)!  Fortunately I have always been very close to my family and our relationship is like a fine wine: it only gets better with time.  No matter how much we bicker, drive each other nuts, or rarely see each other we’re a solid unit.  I know I always have their love and support to fall back on, and that’s all the assurance I need.

The ability to travel: Whether it’s visiting my friends in Singapore, seeing my family in Dubai, attending a wedding in Prague, going home to London or a weekend getaway in Goa, 2011 has certainly added quite a few stamps to my passport.  I’m grateful that travel has always played a role in my life, and has enabled me to both explore new places and revisit familiar territory.

My sis & me in Paris 🙂

My Blackberry: I realize how superficial this sounds but it’s true: I am lost without my Blackberry.  I use it to communicate with friends/family around the world, send out work e-mails, tweet, take photos, set reminders, plan my days, record my running times, get my daily hourly dose of Facebook and so much more.  It might not have snazzy apps like the iPhone but it’s great enough for me 🙂

Quick dry: For someone who cringes at the thought of leaving her nails naked, Quick Dry spray continues to be a Godsend for me!

My friends: I may not have thousands of friends, I may not walk into a party and say hello to a majority of the people there but one thing is for sure: the friends which I do have are my friends for life. It’s a mutual understanding that as much as I have their back, I know they have mine.  I am grateful whether or not we keep in touch, it’s almost natural to pick up from where we last left off.  And finally I am grateful that even though my friends all bring something different to the table, they are tied by a common thread in that they are real.  In other words,  my friends (not fleeting acquaintances) are honest, authentic, flawed, loyal, compassionate…and hilarious!

Naturally good head of hair: Given the amount of straightening, curling, highlighting and blow drying I put my hair through, I should be balding (TOUCHWOOD)!

My health: Despite suffering with malaria twice, being hit by a car, and almost blinding myself thanks to a torn contact lens yet I’m happy to say that by the grace of God, my immunity is great.  This past year, I have heard of so many people suddenly passing away, suffering a heart attack, or getting diagnosed with cancer.  It’s a constant reminder to never take my health for granted because at the end of the day, it truly is what matters most.

Great, now I want a cookie!

Iced Coffee:  Drinking it might be my favorite time of the day.  More than the caffeinated effects, I am grateful for the ritualistic aspect of my morning cup of iced coffee.  It’s right after I work out which means two things: my endorphins are on full throttle and breakfast is only a shower away :)….and it just tastes so freakin’ good!

My Fitness:  Most people crib about having to exercise and consider it a burden.  I am grateful that a) I actually enjoy working out, b) that I am physically able to work out and c) I have never struggled with an injury (touchwood)!

My blog:  Although I’ve said it before, I am grateful to have an outlet to share my thoughts, ideas, recipes, and all sorts of randomness.  I know some of my readers are a vegan so I’ll try to go easy on the cheese but I truly am grateful to have readers who actually choose to read my blog regularly and share their feedback with me.  And if you are reading this, chances are you stuck around for the entire post so thank YOU! 🙂

***Happy Thanksgiving***

  1. That was a really sweet post – gave me a lump in my throat! I share all of u’res apart from quick dry – I should buy that stuff, iced coffee (I would like to swap for whittard green tea with jasmine) and a blog

  2. So yes, Khushboo…naturally my personal ‘what I’m thankful for’ list is identical to yours…except for the QuickDry since I have no clue what that is 😉
Hmm what else am I thankful for? My Job…and just how amazing my discount is on luxury goods; my Macbook Pro, the fact that the only foods I am allergic/intolerant to are green capscium and brussels sprouts, and for the impeccable education I was fortunate enough to be provided with.

    1. Hahah naturally! You need to get on board with QuickDry asap…best thing ever! After you paint your nails, spray it on and within 5 minutes your nails are good to go…peace out smudged nails :)! I want your luxury goods discount!

  3. I’m grateful for a lot of these things too – especially my family, my fitness, and my health! Also, my education and Greek yogurt would make the list too!

Haha I love the “Don’t you wish your girlfriend could squat like me”! I want that on a t-shirt! 😀

  4. I think my list is pretty similar to your but the few extra things i am very grateful for are,
    1. to have you as my sister and ever though we live in separate places we still have such an amazing bond and are always there for each other. And i love when we don’t speak i can just stop my hear and know what you been up to.
    2. I enjoy working out and it is not a chore. Genuinely something i look forward to in my day.
    3. Now that I live in china i never have to wash my hair as its so cheap to go to the salon for a wash and blow dry (feels so nice having blow dried hair all the time)
    4. to have so many places around the world to call home

    1. Especially as some of your comment was gibberish thanks to the nuisance of Auto-correct, I still managed to decipher all that you wrote…if that’s not sisterhood, I don’t know what is :)! I especially like number 1 & 4 of your list!

  5. I love reading the thankful posts!! I’m thankful for my iphone, so don’t feel too bad about being thankful for your blackberry. It allows me to talk to the people I’m thankful for whenever I want to, so it does serve a good purpose!
