Winner Winner, Brinner for Dinner!

You may recall that I had dinner at my cousin Karishma’s place a couple of weeks ago.   We’re both equally into our foods and hence put effort into menu planning for one another.  Wednesday night was my turn to play host.

Despite the lack of cool weather in Mumbai, I thought I would get in spirit of October and plan a fall-based menu starring pumpkin.   That all went to pot when I finished my last bite of breakfast and I had a light-bulb moment: BRINNER!   I was 97.3% convinced that my mom would veto the idea of ‘brunch for dinner’. Fortunately she was game so lo and behold:

  • Cheddar & Vegetable Frittata
  • Grilled Mediterranean Prawns
  • Truffle-Infused Grilled Vegetables with Flaked Almonds
  • Pumpkin, Beetroot & Goat Cheese Salad
  • Condiments (ketchup, mustard, hummus, tabasco, fruit preserves, peanut butter, dark chocolate peanut butter)

This may seem like plenty of food for 3 people but any Indian will agree that when someone comes over, serving only 1-2 dishes just won’t cut it!

You know these would have qualified as dessert, had my cousin not walked in armed with leftover birthday cake:

Leftovers are ugly so here's what it originally looked like 😉

Result: I loved it, she loved it, and my mom loved it!  When I have a family

of my own, I definitely want to start some traditions of our own such as designating one night a week as “Brinner Night”.  Mark my words: the term ‘brinner’ is so going to catch on ha!

If you were inviting someone for dinner, what theme would you go with?

  1. How fun! You guys made quite the feast! Being from Southern California, we also gravitate towards Mexican fiestas. Ordering ‘taco cart men’ is really common actually, but if I were to really be adventurous, a ‘Sushi’ party would be awesome.

  2. I wish I was at your dinner! Khushboo, I have 12 different Juicys to choose from so I could have even supplied the unlikelihood that some of your other friends were Juicy-less!
Love the brinner theme; and that frittata is amazinggggg! I would probably have a Chanel or LVMH theme because I am le obsessed with both companies. If it were Chanel, everything would be black and white- even the edibles (I’m sure I can get creative with that…black olive tapenade, etc) and if it were LVMH, there would be lots of MOET and…oh who knows. But still I want to host a party soon!

    1. 12 Juicys?? Haha you are a balllller! I love your theme, but more than me I’m sure my aunt does! She is a huge Chanel fan, I kid you not when I say that she actually has a Chanel cupboard. Each bag is placed into a box which contains a picture of the bag – otherwise it’s too many to remember what it what! Can u tell that I LOVE going to visit her- good thing she is super generous :)! As for a LVMH party, I think guests should receive an LV going home goodie bag ;)!

  3. Haha, I’m liking brinner! I think if I threw a party, I’d go with an around the world potluck where everyone would bring a dish from their respective countries or ethnicities!

  4. Brinner sounds delicious – thinking you should plan to host another one when I am around!!! 🙁 the pics wouldn’t load so on this blog post for me.

I would probably host a “make your own pizza” dinner. I’d lay out a huge array of toppings so everyone could have something they love (who doesnt enjoy pizza) and could always end on a sweet note with a nutella and nuts pizza.. mmm!
