Go for goal!

Now with a new month emerging, who’s setting new goals?  Although I never have in the past, I am doing so this October:

Build up my running mileage to 10 miles (16 kilometres)

After a while of feeling like my workouts aren’t maximising my potential, I am ready to crank it up a notch.  Only once before have I managed to run that distance and that sense of achievement still remains with me.  Running outdoors is really not an option for me nor does it appeal to me given the current rising temperatures in Mumbai.  Treadmill or not, I am actually pumped about the idea of running this distance for various reasons:

  • I want to feel challenged and branch out of my comfort zones
  • My workouts are starting to bore me.  Having a goal to work towards and a schedule to stick to has already renewed my motivation.
  • It’s about time I stop hovering around the 5-mile mark
  • To prove to myself that I still have it in me

Although weight loss/burning calories aren’t even a fraction of my reasons behind my new goal, I will certainly be happy if I lose anything at all.  For the sake of curiosity, I weighed & wrote down my body measurements on Monday and will do so again at the end.

To avoid injury, I am building up my mileage slowly over the next 6 weeks.  It’s based loosely around Runner’s World’s SmartCoach, so that it still lets me incorporate regular weight training and fits well around my lifestyle.

I’m no expert so any advice from fellow runners would be greatly appreciated :)!

What are your October goals?

  1. Hahaha I love the “Booya” in your training plan. The training plan looks good. I think it’s really good that you’re alternating running with strength or cross training. One thing I always do after my long runs is ice my knees. I think this helps a lot with the soreness and achy post-run feeling. The night before my run I put a bag of rice (no joke!) in the freezer and use it after I get home on my knees or any other part of me that is hurting a bit. Hope this helps!

  2. It’s so smart to build up your endurance versus forcing yourself to do X miles, even though you know your knees can’t handle it (I’m speaking of myself here unfortunately).

My October goal is to find a job that I love. It’s been my goal since October of last year so let’s hope I make some progress. 🙂

  3. You go girl!
My October goal, and college goal in general lol, is to walk up the stairs at least twice a day. Sounds ridiculous.. but I’m on the 7th floor! And in my opinion it counts as a pretty solid workout 😉
