Dropping the F-Bomb

Apparently I have a thing for F’s–> Food, Fitness, Friends, Family, and Fun.  If careers are something to rely upon, you may as well throw Fashion into that list.  Yes that’s right: your once upon a time “oversized white Nike t-shirt and black elasticated shorts” wearing tomboy works in fashion…as does my best friend Sonali who was equally as “stylish” when we were growing up.  Funny how things works out ;)!

Anyways while I wouldn’t call myself a ‘fashionista’ per say, I am fairly clued up with some of the latest trends this season…at least in the wonderful world of denim:

1)    Bright colours

When I was in London over the summer, every shop looked like the rainbow threw up on denim: from electric blue to fuchsia, turquoise, and shocking pink it was all about the colorful jeans.  Even though it was a huge jump from the norm of neutral-colored jeans, it worked!  Moral of the story: when you have a ‘bright’ idea, don’t ignore it!  Now that the sunglasses are put aside, more subdued shades are on the scene.  Think burgundy, aubergine, camel, teal and mocha so to speak.

2)    Wax-Coated denim

When I first saw we had placed an order for jeans in this style, I really didn’t know what to expect.  Lo and behold these are basically denim trousers with paint, beeswax, or a wax glaze to create a shiny finish. As bad ass classic as leather pants look on others, I am yet to brave owning a pair.  To be honest, when I think of leather pants, only one thing comes to mind: Ross Geller and powder.  Want a reason why these have a one-up over leather? I’ll give you 3:

  • They’re more affordable and still maintain that slick aesthetic look
  • The fabric gives your skin much more breathing space
  • They’re vegan-friendly 😉

3)    Corduroys

Although chances are I won’t be dabbling in this trend this year, I’m still all over them.  The only downfall is that the material is too thick to stand a chance against the rising temperatures in Mumbai.  Other than that, they seem to really give you a bang for your buck.  Whether you want a pair for cold-weather wear, smart business wear, or informal outings, cord fits the bill.  Thankfully now that designers are on board with this trend,  it’s possible to wear cord without looking like you shopped in your grandpa’s closet !

What trend are you loving this season?

  1. I love corduroy as well, and will definitely need it here in Portland! I love the colour-blocking trend, so mod and chic- that and all the tweed/60’s style out, I’ve been definitely buying into that 😉

  2. I HATE corduroy, it just reminds me of armchairs, but it’s nice and warm in the winter I bet. Love the brights though, I’m currently buying loads of high waisted and hipster hotpants in electric blue, burgandy, light brown etc to wear with tights this winter 🙂 Working in fashion sounds amazing, I need to get my hands on some of those wax-coated jeans asap!
