Mango Lassi

Fasting: act of willingly abstaining from some or all food, drink, or both for a period of time.  Some people do it for religious purposes, some for weight loss (ridic *cough* ulous), and others for health/medical reasons. David Blaine did it as a feat of endurance: 44 days in a glass box over the Tower of London with nothing but water is no joke…and also kinda crazy! My reasons to fast aren’t limited to one. Every Monday over the last 2 years, I have waited till any time after 7pm to eat a proper meal for:

  • The well-being of my future husband (if only this lucky guy knew! 😆 )
  • Self-discipline

And although this is not a reason at all for me

  • It does act as a nice detox after the weekend indulgences 😳 .

When my Muslim friends fast during Ramadan, I always admire how they can go from sunrise to sunset without even a drop of water.  One day is hard but a whole month is killer! Fortunately the weekly fast that I observe is not as hardcore.  Based on my religious beliefs and what has ‘worked’ in my family, my ‘rules’ of fasting allow me to:

  • Drink whatever
  • Eat fruits, yogurt, and nuts (if only chias were nuts rather than seeds 😉 )!

I tend to have some fruit in the morning post-workout and then a smoothie in the afternoon…which explains my ‘lunch’ today. Fasting or not fasting, every meal has gotta be a good meal :). I kind of just winged it ingredient-wise but the result was spot-on:

Mango ‘Lassi’

  • 100g frozen mango
  • 100 ml coconut water
  • 100 ml milk
  • 65g natural yogurt
  • Dash of vanilla essence
  • Squirt of agave

*Add the above ingredients in a blender and whizz until smooth.

Call me crazy but I consumed it with a spoon rather than a straw: eco-friendly and more satisfying psychologically. Cold, creamy, and delicious…perfect!
