Green Tea Pound Cake

Birthdays are one of the few days of the year where calories don’t count! You can argue all you want about that being a delirious notion but that would make you a party pooper so just roll with it. And when you serve my slice, be sure to make it a generous slice. Slivers just don’t cut it, at least not on birthdays. Nuh uh, girlfriiiiiend (*insert finger snap*)!

I’d like to introduce you to my cousin Karishma, who has agreed to write a guest post for me. She is as much of a foodie as I am, and I’m surprised she hasn’t made an appearance on my blog yet. On Thursday evening, she ever so sweetly baked an awesome cake and I’m going to pretend it was for my blog’s birthday. C’mon, it’s a green tea cake- surely that has my name written all over it! Without further adieu…

A little family tradition that Khushboo and I have grown to share and love is preparing a delicious, yet healthy home-cooked meal for each other.

Call me old-fashioned but we all know the way to someone’s heart is through food…and this is something we take seriously…very seriously!

We take the time to search and prepare the perfect menu. Over the years our culinary skills have developed from basic pasta and tomato sauce to succulent prawn linguine, nasi goreng, sweet potato falafels, Mexican bean burgers, and spicy Moroccan tangine! The list is endless with recipes we have experimented with (some which I think is best if we leave out! 😳 )

After Khush prepared yet another scrumptious meal for me at hers last week, it was my go to turn on the dazzle! Knowing that her sweetness stems from her teeth (she’s just that sweet! 😉 ), I decided to combine a few of her fave treats for dessert…green tea, sponge cake and mmm…chocolate!

**NOTE: contrary to beliefs, adding green tea to the recipe does NOT cancel out the calories! Here are the ingredients that you need:

Green Tea Pound Cake

 Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 tbsp matcha (powdered green tea) – can change this depending on how strong you like your green tea.
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp of nutella

Yeild: 6-8 Servings

Directions:

  1. Cream butter in a bowl.
  2. Add sugar in the butter and mix well until light and fluffy.
  3. Gradually add beaten eggs and whisk well.
  4. Sift flour, baking powder, and green tea powder together and add the flour to the egg mixture.
  5. Pour the batter into a buttered loaf pan.
  6. Bake in a preheated 175 degrees C oven for about 30 minutes (or until a skewer comes out clean)
  7. Eat and enjoy! – we loved this a smidge of nutella on top!

Anddd I’m back. This cake was mighty tasty! The bit about adding Nutella is no joke! I’ve heard it takes to the cake to another level. Not that I wouldn’t know or anything ;)! Thanks KK! Guys, she makes beautiful sarees that are customized to your preferences so be sure to check out Karishma’s blog.
