Oops, I did it again!

You can call me Britney for now :)!  Just when I thought I had exhausted oat recipes with oatmeal, cookies, pancakes, muffins, fried chicken, and so much more- it looks like another one bites the dust: smoothies! Adding oats to smoothies is a perfect way of bulking it out with an added nutritional boost. It also creates a delicious doughy taste and smooth texture. I normally prefer to ‘eat’ my foods but this smoothie was on steroids. It was SO good..and refreshing!

As breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, I like to enjoy it leisurely. Hence I always allocate 30 minutes of my morning routine to it. However I know most people eat a rushed breakfast on weekdays or skip it entirely. If you fall into the latter category, tsk tsk.  Scolding aside, this need not be the case anymore. This smoothie took all of 5 minutes to make, and you can easily drink it en route or once your reach your destination. Mine was so thick that I actually consumed it using a spoon.

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana (if possible, frozen)
  • 5 strawberries
  • 200 ml soy milk (or whatever milk you prefer to drink)
  • 40g low-fat natural yogurt
  • 20g raw oats
  • A squirt of honey

Whiz in blender until you’ve reached your desired consistency.

Once removed from blender, top with a tablespoon of flaxseeds and tablespoon of Bran Flakes for crunch.

Dig in- straw or spoon, the choice is yours! 😀

*Note: If you don’t plan on drinking it immediately/have leftovers, freeze it and then defrost it 30-45 minutes before consumption. From what I’ve heard, refrigerating smoothies will affect the consistency and may result in separation.
