Sleepin’ beauty

Last time I travelled, I blogged about plane food and ways to avoid feeling sluggish and consuming unnecessary calories.  Same way you’d pack a lunchbox to work/school, pack one for the flight.  Here’s my on-board ‘feast’ for tonight’s flight: 

Dinner:

  • Fajita Chicken salad
  • Mini pot of houmous
  • Packet of vegetable crisps (with a 4-ingredient long list, you sure can’t go wrong 😎 )

Snacks:

  • Nanas’ wheat-free chocolate chip cookie 😛
  • Apple…or 2
  • Apple pie-flavoured Nakd bar

Breakfast for when I’m transiting in Dubai:

  • Pot of instant golden syrup flavoured oats

**Here’s hoping the lounge will have some fruit on offer**

Along with having good snacks on hand, getting my Zzzz on makes travelling somewhat more bearable.  The worst thing (crying babies excluded) is being plagued with in-flight insomnia whilst everyone else around you has passed out.  But before you pop a sleeping tablet or 2, here’s something even better and more natural: EXERCISE!  Along with boosting your endorphins and self-esteem, regular exercise actually improves your quality of sleep without any risk of side-effects.  Any kind of physical exertion, even just 30 minutes worth, can encourage deeper and more restful sleep.  More so, your body uses sleep to recover and repair so exercise actually promotes your body’s need to rest.

Call me crazy but before my last flight, I actually woke up at 5:30 AM to do a little bit of yoga and whaddya know: I slept like a baby.  Fortunately tonight’s flight departure time is at a less psycho more reasonable hour which means I can relish the beauty of running outdoors once more (can you tell I am so looking forward to getting back on the dreadmill?? NOT! :().  And if that doesn’t do the trick, at least I have my grub to get through ;)!

  1. What vegetable crisps are you eating? The sound yummy!! Also, you perfectly described my recent feelings of the treadmill – seriously should be renamed the DREADMILL! Have a safe flight and hope you enjoy all your snack and manage to snooze on the flight. x
