There’s gotta be more to life…

I came across this quote which really hit home with me:

“Scales measure weight, not worth”…

Like many other females, I spent a lot of time in the past being hung up on numbers on a scale.  It had become an obsession and controlled my emotions to no end.  A few pounds down could lift my spirits to cloud 9 whereas even half a pound higher could make me feel like a major failure.  To put it lightly, I was somewhat a slave to the scales.

It shouldn’t be like that.  Scales don’t define your self-worth.  Numbers on a scale are not relevant to those who love you.  A certain weight won’t guarantee happiness or success.  There’s more to life than that. People see the confidence you exude, not the number on the scale.

I’m not suggesting you ditch the scales, especially if it keeps you motivated to achieve your (realistic) goals.  But when attainting a certain figure, and that figure only, encourages neurotic behaviour or negative emotions, maybe it’s time to put the scales away.  I do still hop on the scale once every couple of months but to be honest, I just do it for kicks.  I eat well a majority of the time, I exercise regularly, and I’m content with life- does it really matter if 113 lbs pops up rather than 111 lbs??  For now (and ever hopefully), I rather use my clothes and pictures (cough *Facebook* cough ;)) as indicators- if the mere thought of putting on jeans fills you with dread, maybe it’s time to reign it in a bit!…
