When I say PEANUT, you say…

Have u realised that I LOVE to talk about my current food obsessions??  First it’s soy milk, then it’s oats, you must be thinking ‘now what??’.  So to keep up with this trend, I am going to proceed to give a special mention to my latest love…an old childhood favourite…a tease to all those allergic to nuts…the best thing since sliced bread…drum roll please…PEANUT BUTTAHHHH!  This spread can make everything ok, the thought alone makes me smile.   I’ll admit, I think I am addicted to the stuff and literally crave it.  It really is my kryptonite: once I start, I find it SO hard to stop.  When I eat it, I have to practice major restrain as I could easily lick the jar empty without the aid of a spoon.  Although I suppose the extreme creaminess and indulgence inherent to peanut butter makes it just about bearable to stop after a spoonful. Anyway, since I rediscovered the low fat variety a month ago, I haven’t left it alone.  All I’m saying is three cheers for protein & healthy fats!  The two questions remain:

  1. Do you prefer the chunky or smooth variety? (I’m a smooth girl :))
  2. Is it considered sweet or savory?

To answer the second question, perhaps its bi-flavourful and it swings both ways? It does for me at least ;).  While the list really is endless, here are some ways I make use of this jar of yumminess:

  • Mixed in my morning bowl of overnight oats
  • Topping for my oatmeal pancakes
  • Frosting for homemade cookies/cake
  • Sandwich filler with grated carrot or sliced banana (peanut butter+banana sandwiches were actually a favourite of Elvis!)
  • Dipping sauce for chicken/tofu
  • Reese’s Pieces
  • Scoop out the seeds of cantaloupe and replace it with a spoonful (or 2) of peanut butter as an afternoon snack/dessert
  • Dip apple slices+crudités in
  • To make a salad dressing out of
  • Swirled in vanilla ice cream  

….and that’s just off the top of my head

To conclude, here’s a fun fact for all my fellow peanut butter lovers: “Arachibutyrophobia” (pronounced I-RA-KID-BU-TI-RO-PHO-BI-A) is the fear of peanut butter getting stuck to the roof of your mouth.  Watch out, you may be the next victim! 😉

hahah LOVE this . looking forward to my lunch of baked tofu with pb (mixed with soya sauce and mirin) :-p
