Confessions of a freaky eater

The other day, I had asked my cook to cut up some crudités for me and then to leave them in the freezer for 10 minutes so that they could chill.  That’s when it hit me…I have a mild case of OCD when it comes to food.  While some people may call these habits ‘bizarre’ or ‘neurotic’, I like to think it’s much to do with me simply enjoying my food.  For instance:

  • When eating breakfast/yogurt/dessert (or anything else of a similar nature), I use the most itty-bitty sized spoon.  It makes the dish last THAT much longer
  • I prefer eating cold chocolate
  • I must end my day on a sweet note, even if it’s just fruit or hot chocolate
  • I prefer biting directly into an apple, and eat the whole thing including the core (although I do refrain from swallowing the seeds)
  • If I’m eating a sandwich on sliced bread, it has to be cut diagonally rather than horizontally
  • I hate directly biting into Kit Kats and Ferrero Rochers- I always nibble the outer layer of chocolate first.  The same goes for Oreos: I lick off the cream filling first before devouring the biscuit
  • When making omelettes, I never add salt when I’m whisking the eggs…only once it’s ready
  • When I’m eating at home, vegetables are cut up differently according to the meal.  For example, carrots are:
    • grated in salads
    • diced in veg fried rice
    • thinly sliced (julienne) in noodles
    • big chunks in ratatouille
  • I must have a hot drink immediately after each meal (either hot water & lemon or green tea)
  • I either lick clean or use a spoon to scrape off the yogurt lid..otherwise it feels like I’m ‘wasting’ a perfectly good bite of yogurt
  • I cannot bear the taste, let alone the smell, of coriander and will not eat any food that contains a hint of it…even if it was served to me at Buckingham Palace

I hope you enjoyed that the same way I enjoyed Meg Ryan’s scene in When Harry Met Sally (“But I’d like the pie heated, and I don’t want the ice cream on top. I want it on the side, and I’d like strawberry instead of vanilla, if you have it. If not, then no ice cream, just whipped cream but only if it’s real. If it’s out of a can, then nothing”.)

What about you? Anything odd you do? I sure could use a chuckle 😀
